March 23-24 HPDE/Time-trial/Race School @ Buttonwillow Raceway

https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...-school-249596

2-day HPDE is $395. That's less than $200 per day.

Data coaching is $250 on top if you're A+/A solo*.

Club Racing School is $475**.

Time trial is $395.

The HPDE is a killer deal, especially considering you get right seat if you're intermediate or novice. Heck even for A+/solo it's a damn good deal simply for track time.

* I don't know if you need to provide your own data acquisition or if the $250 includes AIM Solo units. Don't ask me, check with the organizers (I'm not running this show this time).

** Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Pacific Region the BMW CCA Club Racing school qualifies you for competition license with NASA and SCCA, so this is actually a pretty good deal in that one school, when you pass, grants you competition license with 3 separate orgs. I think there are other organizations in the region that also recognizes BMW CCA CR school as a sanctioned club racing school. Sorry I should know better, but I don't. Even though I've done the race school multiple times, I never bothered to apply for a competition license (time, money, and family and all).

For the DE guys, the spots are filling up FAST if you want to do intermediate or novice schools. Take a look at the wait-listed instructors on the list. That x2 is the number of students we can still accommodate. On a quick glance, it's well past 70% capacity at this point. Hop on it quick or else you'll find yourself outside looking in.

Time-trial guys, there's 7 cars signed up right now. There's going to be complete and absolute OPEN TRACK. Zero traffic. Even if that doubles to 14 or 15 cars, it's still going to be absolutely the ideal time to set some personal bests. No more worrying or managing traffic to get a clean lap.

Just keep in mind, this isn't the common and popular 13CW configuration that most other organizations run, it's 1CCW (counter-clockwise). Running all the way to Star Mazda adds about 5-7 seconds to your lap time, and the counter-clockwise direction is a slower config, so while you're setting track records, you're setting track records for 1CCW, not 13CW.

We're going to be doing 1CCW. Not 1CW. Even more different than normal.

I'll be in my Sakhir Orange M4 and my wife will be in her San Marino Blue M3. First time on the track for her M3! I hope the Apex wheels we ordered last month for the M3 will be here in time!

OP should add that to participate you have to be a member of BMW CCA. If you're not already a member it's only $48/year and you get discounts on parts and service at BMW dealerships and some local independent shops, as well as some online BMW parts retailers. You can also participate in other local chapter activities, such as autocross, local drives, and social events. Plus you get a really great glossy magazine 10 times a year! I think that you can sign up during registration, but if you can't just click here. When filling out the online form, please use my membership number, 444697, as the referrer.

Correct. Although I believe that the chapters are allowed to take up to 15% non-members as long as a member referred them to the event, if they're attending a BMW CCA event for the FIRST TIME.

Thank you for sharing. Last time I did BW was in my '90 CRX and AP1 S2K back in 2011. I have never taken my M3 out there. Unfortunately, I will be out of town during that weekend. It would have been good time for me to do HPDE with instruction on that track.

Thanks again.

I’m going through the nasa and SCCA Comp license process right now and this school “should” just fulfill the school part, to get a novice permit. I did the SCCA CalClub school last month to fulfill this requirement.

Needs 6 racing days to go from novice permit to full license.

OP, could you please confirm? If the bmwcca school grants a full competition license for nasa and scca right out of the gate, I’m so there

Confirmed it qualifies for NASA licensing. Not sure about SCCA.

Spoke with the steward. He said NASA licensing rules are pretty clear and sent me this link:

https://nasa-assets.s3.amazonaws.com...282/2019.1.pdf

He said Rule 13, especially 13.1.5. and 13.2 will apply to you. So if I am to read it correctly, the race school only provides the provisional license, and that provisional license will allow you to race in NASA or BMW CCA events (he's unclear on SCCA). Once you've completed 4 races, you'll be awarded a competition license with a rookie designation.

Now I remember why I didn't bother to obtain my competition license (well, there's the factor of $$$ after my daughter was born, but whatever).

Thank you for confirming. That’s exactly my understanding also.

SCCA requires a different license. I both SCCA and nasa logbooks for my car and need to apply for nasa permit using my SCCA permit.

I guess they see each other as competitors, while the brand specific clubs aren’t

Thanks again for checking. I need to use my track entry fee $ to do nasa/SCCA races to get a full license.
