Winter Wheel / Tire opinions and options?

Hey folks.

I'm on the cusp of buying a shiny new M3. It's a toss up between a M3 comp or M3CS.

Anyway, I live in Minnesota and I plan to daily drive my new car. I will need a set of winter tires and/or winter wheels.

Dealership suggests I buy the BMW 641m wheel/tire package (quote $3182).

I thought I'd ask you folks if you had any other opinions on what else might work?

I don't know much about buying wheels and it's difficult for me to search because I don't know about what is required for offsets and whatnot.

I have the 17 zcp so I also live in a cold climate (Wisconsin). I love how the wheels look so much I went with keeping them and buying Pirelli Sottozeros. Just drove through a snow storm like a champ on Monday. Very good in snow great traction.

total setup and installation was about $1,600.

I live in Chicago and have the 640m wheels. So far, they've been working great as my daily driver except for a few days where the snow was too deep for the front of the car.

My set up is Apex 18 EC-7 and Michelin X ice - which are rated as Studless Ice & Snow and not winter performance tires (like ex the michelin pilot alpin 4 or the ones that come with the BMW set). I picked those for a little bit more snow and ice traction. Have not had any issues. Drive my car every day even in snow storms and have done fine.

I think I paid 1950 for the above including the TPMS (mounted and balanced) but it was through a group buy. The BMW set that the dealer is selling in my opinion is way too expensive. My feeling is i don't need super expensive wheels in the winter. Also keep in mid that in general an 18s will be cheaper than a 19s set.

I went with VMR 710 wheels in 19x9.5 ET 22 and 19x10 ET 25. Really nice offsets chosen by @Kevin@EAS, tires are Blizzak LM32 with 265 35 19 and 275 35 19. Great Set up. Fits nice and flush, a lot of complements on the look.

Pic is at this link: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=24

Cost was ~2500 shipped to NY

I bought this setup and it works well. I think mine was around $2500. I dropped to 18” for the winter wheels.

Thanks for the input everyone!

My timing is bad, its getting hard to source some good tires but I'm eying up a tirerack package with BBS SRs and Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 run flats.

I have the options of Blizzak LM001 and Alpine B4, reviews seem to show that the Sottozero 3s are a little more versatile between wet,dry and snow. We see all of that in great amounts in Minnesota.

Great look and set up. They are not black , rims look more dark bronze.

They're anthracite and after the last two days off driving in the snow over the mountain passes, I will say they are doing better than expected.

Another vote for the Pirelli Sottozero 3's, I went with non-runflats. 245/45-18 on 18X8 square. Love em so much I got the Sottozero's for the wife's X1.
