Where do you park your new baby?
Today i was at the gym and my eyes caught a glimpse of a beautiful JB M3 coupe. Lovely car but to my surprise it was parked between a early 90's ford explorer and a tore up camry. Now sure maybe all 3 spots were empty when the car parked but it was one of the closest spots to the gym so you know it's gonna fill up. why would you risk it? My dad has an 04 525 with 70k on it and he still parks a mile and a half away from the entrance of whatever store we're trying to get to. Lord knows if i had an M3 i wouldn't just park it anywhere.
Which brings me to my question. How careful is everyone with where they park their cars? At what point do you stop giving a shit?

I guess it depends. I usually park it next to a curb really close that way I know there is lots of room on one side and no one can park on the other.

That's what I do all the time. And still, there are some idiots parking really really close to my car. I always go around my car to check if there's any dings/dents before I get into my car.

I haven't got a door ding since the mid-90s. It's good exercise to walk a ways to the door anyways. Mine will be a weekend toy anyways, but I still care about my trusty '03 330i so it's business as usual on the parking habits.

A car is just a material possession. It also is a utilitarian element. Blue tape, clear bra, parking a mile away. Might as well park it in your living room because not mater how much you try to protect things, something always go wrong.
I say enjoy the car and stop worrying. |

Like most people, I try to park far enough away from other cars. If I MUST park near another car, I try to ensure it's a sedan as they (theoretically) tend to have shorter doors and lessen the chance of a ding. But in the end, it's just metal and rubber and can always be fixed or replace.

Dude's it is a CAR lol. I know, in the beginning you probably keep it parked far away from others? but after a while, you will get a scratch on the paint, rims, leather,... anyways... it's an object to use, isnt it???
It's a matter of how clean it is , just wash it every 3days and than its good :d |

Here's a handy thought for those who are paranoid:
Buy a cheap point and shoot digital camera and keep it in the glove compartment. When you park next to someone, take a picture of their car so you catch make/model/color and plate number. Someone dings your door and it leaves paint, you have proof. |

I do try to park far away to minimize damage, but it seems every time I do that in an empty parking lot some jackass parks in the space right next to me.

It's really not that much work to take care of your car. Don't make excuses if you're just too lazy or don't care what happens to your $60k car.
