The dreaded check engine light

I just turned 5000 miles yesterday. Light came on this afternoon. I opened and tightened the gas cap hoping it will clear. The last time I got a check engine light it was a saga that went on for months.

Hang in there. I hope it's nothing too serious.

I had the low oil warning right before I got the 1200 mile service done, so that timing wasn't too alarming.

I haven’t needed any oil yet. The ‘16 ate a quart every 4000-5000 miles. We’ll see. I’m also getting better mpg. I hit 14 mpg on my mixed hwy/city daily grind. I have never seen better than 13.5 in any of my X5 or X6s. M or not. I hope the oil is nothing.

same for me.

My 09 X635i never had any oil issues.
My 14 650i was low on oil every 4-5k miles
16 X650i was the same as the 650.

My 19 X6M is doing surprisingly well on MPG... right about where the 50i was at 15.5 MPG.

Looks like I'll be going through oil quickly with this one too. Just such making constant visits to the service center, though.

I wish you success with yours. Hopefully this will be the last warning light you see once you get it checked out.

I am happy to report opening and closing the gas cap reset the check engine light. Glad it was a false alarm.
