F15 35D owners with high mileage please jump in
I am considering buying F15 35D soon and looking for some feedback in terms of reliability from owners who have owned it for long time or put alot of miles on it. I know E70 35D was least reliable across E70 so I am wondering if F15 has been better.

Mine is a 2014 35d and I’m sitting at 81k miles and it gets driven around 10-14k miles a year. So far it’s been good I didn’t have any issue, but I did do all the preventive maintenance and service (changed all fluids radiator, transmission transfer case, front and rear diff) that was due when I purchase it at 60k miles in 2017, previous owner leased it for 3 years so all maintenance was done under Bmw 5 year lease plan (but that did not carry over when it bought it)
They can be reliable when you service on time, using right oil (ll-04 or ll-12fe spec oil)and your commute at least 5-10 miles one way on highways to keep the egr and dpf from clogging. If your doing short commute can cannot allow the vehicle to come to operating temp you should stick with the 35i or 40e. |

E70 50i was the least reliable.. by some distance. E70 35d was pretty reliable, except for some emissions components, but AFAIK, bmw stepped in and extended warranty on a bunch of components like NoX sensors, SCR tank, etc.

Most of the troublesome diesel components are extended out to 10 years or 120k miles. I am currently at 83k, and no issues at all with my vehicle. My E70 was at 75k when I sold it, and I never had any issues with it either. I do have a long daily commute which is 45-60 mins. This is better for diesel’s to ensure they properly warm up and clear out the carbon deposits. That’s the main issue with these modern diesel’s. It’s not the motors, but it’s the emission equipment that fouls up and causes headaches.

We are sitting at 80k on our 2015 BMW X5d and it has been excellent so far! It is at 42 months lease as of this Friday due to lease extension of 6 months and I ordered both a 2019 BMW X5 40i loaded and a 2020 Mercedes GLE450 loaded but after test driving the X5 40i which felt amazing and more refine with better steering plus ride feel, the MPG was bad in city. The X5 got around 25-26 mpg on highway but with some city driving it drops to 23-24 which isnt great compared to 30-31 mpg total for the X5d. But we use the X5 for 90% highway work commute and 90 miles a day so I wanted to get more than 600 miles on a tank at least so I can fill it up once a week. So we are going to finance the buyout of the X5 this week and go from there and wait for a better replacement. Hopefully BMW will sell the newer X5 in diesel or we can try the new 45e-hybrid.

My F15 35D is at 90K miles and I am starting to have some issues.
First, The turbo was leaking oil. This caused really bad accumulation in the troddle body, intake plenum and intake. I think also led to something going on with the cylinder head. I am still working on finding out what it is but it is making a crazy noise. I have attached the file if anyone cares to take a look. Let me know if you have any thoughts.
