Best OBD Adapter for coding X5

Hi All,

I am thinking of doing some basic coding to my 2018 X5. After watching couple of YouTube videos I found the easiest way would be to use BimmerCode app.

Most of the people in these videos were using Vgate iCar Pro OBD adapter to use with BimmerCode app. However on Amazon I find three different version of this adapter. WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and Bluetooth 3.0.

Anyone have experience with these adapters, which one should I go with ?

Thanks,
IP

Do a quick search and you will see a few threads with what you are looking for.
I use vgate Bluetooth and it works well for me.

I bought the WiFi version and I had no issues so far. I leave it connected to the port and turn it on when I need it.

Leaving it connected can interfere with the alarm system of the car, and you should not need it that often anyway.

In what way? The dongle is powered off until needed. However if it does interfere with the alarm, I will take it out but I haven't had any issues for a few months now.

Ya my Wifi dongle won't det my alarm off but my obd data logger thing i use with other apps set it off immediately. So I coded the obd alarm thing off. Weird that one does but the other doesn't. I think cuz one pulls info from the car while the other just acts as a access point maybe. Idk.

I also have 2018 x5 and I'm using VeePeak OBDCheck Bluetooth, that's the one suggested by developer, so far so good, no problem with connection and never had any error codes

What's up guys and girls. I didn't want to start a new thread regarding this topic. I just received my Veepeak obd2 Bluetooth and it works well with my 2016 f15 35i. Coded with Bimmercode app and checked errors with Bimmerlink (just to be safe).

I briefly read the obd manual and followed it. Basically, make sure you turn on your Bluetooth and turn on airplane mode so nothing interferes with the signal. Make sure you have at least 50% battery life on your phone. You can start your engine to leave the car on or turn on the accessories by pressing the start/stop button (be sure to fasten seat belt so the accessories does not turn off).

From there, plug in the device to your car, the blue light will lit up on the obd device. Then open up the coding app (Bimmercode) and press connect.

It'll try to connect and read the vehicles code. From there when you go into one of the functions it'll load the codes you can do your car and towards it seems that it'll automatically back up your settings. Be sure to check the backups. It'll show date and time backed up.

Once coded, it'll say success and then you can test it out.

I started off by coding the side mirrors to have it folded and unfolded when pressing the lock/unlock key. Worked really well with no errors when I went in to bimmerlink app to check for errors.

Is this a Veepeak Ad?

If you don't want to start new thread why don't you use the existing one for Bimmercode one? https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1391908

I have same adapter and it's working well. But I've never seen BimmerLink, and the app is not in the Google Play Store. Only BimmerCode. ??

Thanks for the heads up. I'm pretty new to the forum and have been lurking and getting lots of good info from the community. Still getting the hang of posting and sharing my experience.

No way this an ad 🙂
