Wise to purchase CPO x35d with end of future production in US?

Lease due for return in 10 days and not sure if I should just keep my 2016 x35d and refinance the residual, which is just shy of market, of $43K; Downsides are 52K miles and will get slammed for excess mileage. This is my second 35d and I LOVE, LOVE everything about it.

Is it wise to re-invest (purchase) CPO x35d or with regrets -start thinking of 35i? There are a very few 2017 and 2018s x35d with MSport. Price points $51-$55K; miles between 10-35K. Could look to snag a good deal on a 2015, but not sure I am comfortable with this age AND the prices are outrageously high at $30-45K!! If I decide on it, best bet maybe to find the best cost, low mileage 2018. The 2019 45e is out of reach for me at this time.

I am concerned about future repairs and service fo x35d. As with most obsolete car models - there seems to be a premium for parts, labor and availability of parts. I plan on keeping for at least 5-7 years.

Who else is pondering a purchase or have purchased and unfazed by the end of production in US?

2016 x35d - Black Sapphire, Mocha Design Package, MSport, 20" Wheels, Harmon Kardon, Driver Assistance/Plus Pkg, Surround View, 3-Row Seat
- $76K MSRP

Pondering the same thing. The 2014 X535d with m-sport was the first diesel automobile I've ever owned. I loved it so much, when my lease was up in 2017, I ordered an exact carbon copy. My dealer thought I was crazy.

My plan was to do the same in 2020 when the current lease ends. However, with the potential for no more diesels in the US, I am struggling with the lease buyout option or simply move along.

With the exception of previous ///M cars, the X5d is by far one of my favorite BMW's I've ever owned over the last 20 years. The torque, the 29 MPG, size, utility, looks, handling - it checks every box for me.

I like the new X5, but unless they have a diesel option, this will be my last X5. If I do stay with BMW, it will be my X5d or maybe the ///M X3.

I bought my 30d (as it’s marketed over here) at the end of my lease, just over a year ago. They didn’t charge me for any over-miles, as I’m the one buying into any reduced value. So far I’ve had one set of front brake pads and a set of rears and a brake fluid replacement pending outside of my warranty and free maintenance plan. Now at 86k miles. The d models will still be sold in other markets, so it’s far from obsolete! Still smile every day!

There is a huge advantage in buying back you own car... you know the person who drove it before you.

Don't go with 3.5i if you loved you 3.5d, you will see the difference at the gas station you will stop, and you might regret the torque at low revs. Indeed, diesel are on their way out because of the Diesel Gate, but I'll be one of the last to give up on a diesel engine.

Can you still get the extended warranty from the dealer? I bought mine last Summer with an unlimited millage warranty. So far, they changed a front suspension bar, both airbag (rear's suspension), and the price I paid for the warranty is already covered.

Car is never a good investment after all, but I love my 35D, got it CPO and will drive it until it falls apart.

Thanks for the feedback - exactly my thoughts! Just went to my local dealer and was offered a tempting deal on a 2018, but actually think I may prefer my 2016 better... I hope to get 150K + on this baby!

Dude, you are in TX (no emissions on diesels)? You should buy yours and do the ABC delete and you will be set.

52k miles on a diesel is just broke in. You know the vehicle as mentioned. I'd not worry about maintenance support and you have service and warranty products if you want to limit your downside.

The gain on newer are safety systems. Forward collision, side obstruction and so on plus CarPlay.

What do you value?

Yeah I'm enjoying mine a lot. But what's the deal with the EGR recall, anybody receive new information?

I'm waiting to delete mine just in case they can't find remedy and possible buyback from BMW.

We have a 2015 X5d with 80k miles and it has been flawless. Call us crazy but I convinced the family that we have to refinance the buy out amount which was low since we did 25k a year lease for 3 years for work so its not too bad. We couldnt accept the lower cruising range of the newer X5 40i though 90% of the work commute is highway with 90 miles a day Mon-Fri so it was nice to have some range left for the weekend and only fill it up 1x a week. I have a 2016 Audi A7 on the side for the weekend too.

Also BMW should just accept it and start selling the newer X5 in the diesel variant as they said back in 2018 fall that they were still undecided and will act depending on market demand in the USA.
