Wheel Locks

Posting for a friend who is on the road. He has a 2014 F15 xDrive35i with the standard 19" wheels and RF tires. Guess he just got a flat and went to a tire place and they discovered he has a wheel lock and no key anywhere to be found in the X5. It was a CPO purchase as he is not the original owner.

With the basic 19" rims were wheel locks standard? Any "mystery" place a wheel lock key could be hidden?

I have the exact same car and ours does not have wheel locks. Guess he called BMW dealer and they said with his VIN# they could order him one but that would take days and not guarantee the locks are OEM.

Worse case scenario tire shop can strip out the lock or you can contact the dealer to see if parts department has a spare if it is a genuine bmw lock.

Did you check below the rear trunk cover?
There is a slot for wheel lock key.

If it's not in the under trunk storage, check the left side as well. The wheel locks are often in a white box or a plastic molded case.

My stock 19's didn't come with a wheel lock which I thought was strange but appears to be par for the course except in your buddies case.

I hate wheel locks..... removing them is the first thing that gets done once I take possession of a car.

All you have to do is be stranded one time without the wheel lock key and you'll never use them again.

BMW provided a designated spot for keeping the key. Shall we give up on using wheel locks because someone might misplace it?
