How do you camp in your X5?

I'm taking my X5 camping this season and I'm curious if anyone has an interesting setup they want to share.

I'm debating between sleeping in the back or getting a roof mounted tent.

Is this a serious question?

Camping in the x5 as a choice? I thought this only happened when people were stranded

Get a hitch and pull one of those micro campers

Can fold second row down and use a roll up mattress.

That’s as far as I’ve gotten.

I drive it into the motel parking lot and make sure it's locked.

Therma mattress, or blow up one would work. Not sure where you would put your gear if there were two people. You're in trouble if you are taller than 5-9.

Yeah I'm 6". Gave it a test yesterday and was a little cramped inside while trying to lay down.

I wouldn't dare take my X5 into the woods... but if you don't care about branches scraping the paint or body damages..

Or just old fashion tent on the ground works to..

I used to have Touareg, and with Treq i use to camp a couple of times. I use Guana overtop tent. Never camped ever since. I am sure they have something that would work on X5))

I go camping often near upstate NY but I don't car camp.. I load everything that I need in a backpack and hike in several miles from the trail head to camp.

Wish I could provide input but when I did an overnighter in the desert with the fellas the wifey straight told me your taking the Armada, which worked out for the best since more space and flat with all the seats down compared to X5.

Yeah I didn't realize how "not flat" the back is even with the seats are down.

Camping? In the X5? Ha! My wife’s idea of roughing it is having to stay at a holiday inn.

I don't understand the fascination of the roof top tent. Why don't you just use a regular tent? They are cheap and come in lots of sizes colors etc.

I have taken E70 down 1000's of miles of dirt roads and frozen lakes in search of ATV trails and Boy Scout activities. The biggest drawback are the tires. Low profiles tires aren't too good off road. Be aware! Also cleaning mud out of the fender radiators is a pain in the but.

Good luck!

Sometimes depends on where you're camping, if it's rainy, snowy or muddy it can make things easier. You also don't have to spend any time setting them up storing your bedding anywhere.

Great point about the tires! I don't plan on doing any crawling though .

I think I'd rather stay in a tent than a holiday inn

As well isn't it like 75 kg load limit on the roof rails?

I think it's 100 KG on mine. Either way it's not nearly enough. Most of the guys you see with rooftop tents have some pretty beefy custom racks.
