Debadge a 50i?

I am considering debadging my 50i. I was thinking about doing the sides or possibly both the sides and rear. In that case I would only have the roundels. Anyway, I do think the side markings mess up the look and lines but they are the only thing that really broadcasts the fact that it is the V8. If it were a 3.5 I wouldn't think twice, but it was my teenager who made me think when he said that I was being dumb to remove the markings that differentiate a $90k car from a $60k car. That made some sense to me. What say the forum?

Do you really need to broadcast what you paid for on the 50i? Are you a teenager?
Also not many people understand what the 50i and 35i or 35d stands for and how much they cost outside of the BMW or car enthusiasts community. Debadging serves a purpose.. keeping the car clean! I also remove the dealers sticker or badges from all my cars.

One look and listen to it and an enthusiast will know what you have. Do you really need to broadcast what you've got to the non-enthusiast? If you want it clean go for it. If you care what people think leave them on. Either answer is correct. It's your preference. The only wrong thing to do is putting badges on it to fake what you have; not appropriate to fake it until you make it.

I like the clean de-badge look also but still undecided about doing it thinking I might take a ding on value when the time comes to sell/trade. Then again a little double sided tape or new set can easily fix that.

Is this real?

I wasnt aware that the 35i had a cap at $60K, I guess I was ripped off...twice.

I recommend that you debadge it, then place the window sticker back on and enjoy!

Most people won't even know it was missing in the first place. For what it's worth BMW finally came to their senses and the new X5's now don't have the side badging anymore.

I debadged mine without a second thought. I like the clean look. I don’t care if people know if I have a 50i or not. There is always something better.

The only problem I’ve encountered is people ask why my X3 looks bigger than theirs.

Looks much cleaner...no matter which model you have.

You should also consider taking of the chrome around the windows...

Fair enough on the harsher comments. I suppose I deserve them but I was curious what the consensus would be.

Anyone who knows the difference between what the badges even mean will know how to tell the difference without them.

I have a 50i and the first thing I did was I debadged it. I seriously even contemplated putting the 40e badge when I did the muffler delete but opted against it because I'm lazy.

You can also get body color inserts to replace the side markers to address that if it bothers you.

In the used market now they are pretty much the same in value and will likely lose out in long term value compared to the 35i. Definitely will lose to the 35d.

But do whatever you feel LOOKS better to you and enjoy!

Then you shouldn't care about showing off how much money you paid for your used CPO BMW X5 50i Msport which is not valued at $90K anymore.. more like $50K now. So why even care?

Let’s clear up one thing, a 35i/d can have a MSRP of up to $90K as well. Don’t get fooled thinking that the 35i/d is a cheaper cousin of the 50i, they're both F15's and expensive vehicles.

There are many factors that go into choosing which motor option someone wants, for many the initial cost isn’t one.

If you wanted to really impress people, including your teenager, you should have opted for the F85.

Enjoy the n'used F15, badged or debadged.

Personally, I'm more of a "sleeper" type. I don't like talk about my money, how much I make or what I spend on things. Just raised that way.

Plus if my car is faster than yours, I wouldn't want you to know.

With that being said... I would actually debadge it so people wouldn't know if it was a more expensive model of the X5. If I got an M, I would definitely debadge it, for the same reason.

But what everyone else has said... BMW enthusiasts can tell pretty quick what you have, everyday Non-Bimmer owners won't know the difference.

I got my first BMW only a couple of years ago... everyone at work, was like whoa! You got a BMW... I was VERY quick to tell them.... don't get excited. I got it used and spent NOWHERE close to what they sell for new.

When I built my house, I used a local lender in a town about 2 hours away because of privacy. I live in a smallish medium size town where people make it their business to know your business. Nothin' to hide... but at the same time, everything to hide.

It's best to be humble about finances - all the time.
