Anyone running Pure Turbos on their track day car?

I’m about to swap my E92 track day toy for an F8x and I’m wondering if anyone is running a big horsepower car and how effective it is.

I’ll be running Drexler diff, Intrax or Nitron R3, Essex APs all round, cage, stripped interior, 305 slicks/semis, etc.

My E92 is actually quite hard to unstick the rear tyres, but that makes hardly any torque by comparison, I’d love to hear about experiences of some running such an F8x.

you'd better have a crank hub fix before tracking a Pure Turbos M3!!!

I wasn't running pure turbos, but I was running E85 making 570rwhp/tq on the stock turbos and the car was a little bit of a handful with 305 semi-slicks. With 305 slicks though, it was very manageable and a total GT3 killer. At the power level I had, you were only getting pulled on by the McLarens on the straight so I didn't see a need for much more power personally. I had full interior too, so if you are stripping the car down you will be a good bit faster with the weight difference.

Thank you, this is what I wanted to hear. I’ll leave it on the standard turbos then to start with and see how I get on. What spec chassis is your car?

As mentioned above, stock turbos on e54 here in AZ seemed to be the perfect spot for the track.
I recently just did crank hub & pure turbos. After getting a new custom file dialed in I decided to attend a track day before Bimmerfest.
The car on Pures is definitely a handful, if you told your tuner to tune for high hp/low tq this may help you out. Once the tires got warmed up the car did decent (NT01's 275/305).

If you plan on just tracking the car my advice would be to stick with stock turbos w/ a nice custom tune for low Tq & some good tires

Hope this helps!

M4 Competition
AST Coilovers
AP Racing 9668 on the front / stock rear hardware
Full Akrapovic exhaust
E85 tune
305 Pirelli DH Slicks on all 4 corners

The car was perfect with this setup. It was so balanced and easy to extract every last possible tenth out of a lap. If I would've continued with this car, I would've added aero next. I would think with the weight reduction and aero you would be one of the fastest people on the track, easy.

It does, especially the hp/torque tip, thank you.

Very nice indeed. You run with DSC completely off presumably?

Yes, you have to. It's impossible to run fast times in this car running with the aids on. They are very intrusive.

Hey so, I thought crank hub issue affected people who mechanically over rev the car? or run it super lean /get deto or have some other tune related issue

Can you break it just from big torque?

No one really knows. Anyone that tells you something specific is lying to you. There have been tuned cases, stock cases, abused, babied, etc. I personally ran E85 making decent power without a crank hub fix and never had any issues. The car probably experienced more abuse and load than any other car out there which has had a crank hub issue too, honestly.

Got a set of VTT Game Changers being installed next week and going back to the dyno. Looking forward to seeing how it performs in person.

I track mine with Pures on 93 tune. Car makes low to mid 500s and runs great. I am getting it on the dyno in the next couple of weeks.

Running a bigger turbo at let's say 570whp versus stock turbo at the same power level would still be beneficial. Since the turbo flows better, you won't see the horrible mountain curve torqueband of the stock turbos. This in turn would help you put the power down mid corner/corner exit. Reliability and useable power is all in the tune; boost by rpm and boost by gear would be nice.

This is what I'm looking into now, to see if it's possible with this ECU or a plug-in. I used to drag race turbo bikes and clutch/boost control were key.
