H&R Sport Spring (Non VTF) and Bilstein B6 shocks
Forgive me if this has been discussed already but is there anyone out there running H&R's and Bilstein B6? I'm curious to know if that will get rid of the bouncy/harsh ride. Most i found was peeps still using them with stock shocks. And no I will not be going the KW route as a sure cure all.

Thanks! I also got this info from Bilstein. If folks wanted to replace their OEM shocks with aftermarket. While the B6 has minimal difference when collapsed, the rear are close to .5" lower than OEM. B4 OE front – 22.20 extended and 16.26 collapsed B6 Performance front – 22.30 extended and 16.24 collapsed B4 OE rear – 20.75 extended and 14.78 collapsed B6 Performance rear – 20.77 extended and 14.31 collapsed

I personally think the B6 will pair well with the H&R springs. I tried to go this route but gave up after I waited for months on the B6 back order. Go for it and report back!

B6 is meant for aftermarket lowering springs thus the slightly shorter length, not sure y the fronts arent any shorter than the B4s.

I contacted Bilstein, to see if they could answer the question of what the difference is between stock and B6's, but they didn't have anything truly helpful to say.
Below is a part of the reply I received: We cannot comment/compare on a product we don’t manufacture. The B6 units are a high performance OEM replacement unit. Tuned for comfort and control Kinda disappointing that they expect one to buy into their line of shocks, despite not being able to tell us any good reasons in regards to why one should consider using their B6's over stock. Kind of put me off wanting to buy from them! I'm sure their R&D department has compared the OEM shocks with their B6's, and they could create a better description of what makes their shocks different/better than OEM according to them. Considering Bilstein is part of ThyssenKrupp, maybe they are too big of a company to care... Anyway, considering the Bilstein rep not being able to give me a good reason to why I should update, and the OEM's having the possibility to last a few more years, I'm in no rush to update, until I can get better data. (unless I decide to switch to KW V3's) |

I went with a H&R / Bilstein setup on my Z4 - not even close to the same platform, but I wanted something between OEM and teeth jarring tight - this nailed it. Big bumps are a little jarring due to the limited movement needed to keep from bottoming out, but the travel and stiffness on normal roads is perfect. Tight and in control on the corners, but not rough when cruising.

My response from Bilstein when comparing the B4 to B6:
Hello, B4 is a twin tube unit that is most like the OE dampers from the chassis manufacturer. B6 is a monotube damper tuned for more spirited handling, really favors the enthusiast that want to “feel” the road and better overall control. Coils we would recommend are the H&R or Eibach.

Not sure if these are meant for rear air-suspension vehicles. I asked sales rep and they confirmed that the set up has to be B6 all around for their I impact to be "felt". Hope I got correct info! |

Looking forward to see a review. My understanding is that they are the same for rear air as for rear springs, but don't quote me on that. Since I'm too lazy to search do you have lowering springs or stock springs? Thnx! |

Appears that the fronts have identical part #s and the rears have separate ones. Don't ask me why! At this point, I will keep the order live, but if they extend the wait, that'll mean they lied to me....unless the boat that brings them across the Atlantic sank of something! |

Front shocks are interchangeable between both sides. While the rear, they are technically interchangeable, but just because of the brake line bracket, it has to be 2 different part number. The orientation of brake line bracket is mirror between left and right side.
