Brakes squeaking

About 150 miles after my 1200 mile service I noticed my brakes started squeaking at low speeds. It does not squeak when I'm breaking hard from say 60 to 40 but whenever I brake at around 20 mph or slower whether hard or gently it will squeak

I checked under iDrive and the computer says the brakes are fine, anyone have any theories as to why this would happen?

Did you bed the brakes properly? I bet not. I did and no noise at all...none. We all have the same pads and rotors, so one could eliminate that from the equation.

If you are up to it, read the following and give this a shot....I have always beeded pads this way and it works.....

http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm

EDIT: I should add that even after proper break-in, you still may get an ocassional squeel....it is normal as the M has a higher performance pad on it, compared to most street cars.

Totally normal, did you "bed" your brakes? Not to be a dick, but in case not enough people answer try the function and you will find a bunch of threads dealing with this.

There is nothing wrong with the brakes, its the price you pay for higher performance brakes I guess. A bunch of users have complained of squeaking breaks.

You can relax and just enjoy your car

i guess this is a problem with the M3 as well. many e9x owners are having similar issues with squeaky breaks at low speeds.

My car has 100 miles on it and has been squeaking at low speeds already. I guess I did not bed the brakes correctly but all my other cars brakes don't squeak. My E46 M3's did the same thing, will a different pad cure it? It is just annoying, I don't care if it is normal.

yes, I'm not entirely sure that this is a matter of bedding the brakes. my 335 had a horrible problem with this despite the fact that I bedded them and the problem got worse as the mileage went up. the sensors don't function properly and get stuck to something. had to go to a few dealers before they fixed it, and even then it really was only fixed when it was time for new brakes under warranty. my understanding from a SA is that many bmw models do this as the second I mentioned it he had an answer and lamented that his 328 had the same issue.

Prolly apples to oranges...I am sure the compounds are different between models.

Different pads can make a difference for sure. Some will be MORE noisy (like a Pagid RS19 -- like I had on my GT3. It sounded like a garbage truck when the brakes were cold!). Some will be quiter, but prolly not offer the higher thermal value of the stockers (whihc proly aint all that high compared to an RS19). BUT, if your driving style does not warrant higher brake temps, there are several aftermarket companies that make pads that are quiet. Not sure what the applications for the new M are, but I bet there will be plenty in the near future, if they aren't out there already.

bedding the brakes or not... its not normal. some people in this forum dont have squeeks.

i took it to the dealer and they foudn out that the emergency brake spring was sticking out and rubbing against the rotor... creating a squeel.

btw i took my car in to the dealer and they repetitively told me it was "normal". tell them to look at it closely and that this is a known problem now.
