Brake squeal
Hi,
I change the rotors and pads about two months ago with a Zimmerman/Textar set-up and, starting a few weeks after having them changed, I started hearing a noticeable squeal coming from the front passenger wheel when lightly pressing on the brake pedal (there is no squeal if I press hard on the brakes). Any thoughts on what this could be or how I can get rid of the sound from this one wheel? Thanks Last edited by MichaelInChicago; 10-06-2019 at 08:26 AM.. |

Sometimes that can be a hard issue to solve. I pretty much never have squeaky brakes on any car, and my daughter gets squeaky brakes on every car. It can come from two sources. One is a very high frequency vibration between the metal pad backing and the piston. That's why those surfaces are greased. The second is between the pad surface and the the rotor. They can get glazed. If it were me, I'd remove that wheel, clean everything up good with brake cleaner, make sure all the areas where the pads touch the piston and slide on the calipers are correctly greased, and I'd run the pad surface a couple passes over a flat block of wood with about 100 grit sandpaper on it to deglaze them, reassemble and try again. It's a 30 minute job if you DIY at all.
