Blackline trim spotting up badly - anyone else?

I dry the water off of it immediately (except for after rain) and the blackline trim looks like garbage. Zaino swirl remover makes it look a tad better but it looks almost defective. Suggestions?

You know I have blackline trim on my ZHP; it doesn't spot. Well, what I actually do is that I use a chamois followed by a micro towel. No spots, even on windows. Try it and see if that will work.

My trim on my E90 was doing the same, looks like water circles underneath the blackline trim? if so, when I had my car serviced last, I got BMW (in the UK) to swap it all over for brand new trim, since the car was still under warranty.

Hope this helps

My brand new car had spotting on ONE SIDE and not the other. the passenger side had it, the drivers side is mint. Nothing I tried would take it out. I think it may be a factory defect...you could be in the same boat.

They all do that, the germans can make nice cars, but not shadowline trim that doesn't spot. I had the same problem on my ZHP as well. Try to not let water dry on the trim, or you can use vinegar and distilled water to remove the hard water spots.

Good luck!

Mine are not water spots...it seems like they are under the paint/clear (?). It is not a surface issue (from what I can tell). It looks like a chemical wat misted on it.....sort of that sort of look.

At any rate, I am going to have them look at it in a couple of days.

I'd try something like a paint cleanser before having the entire trim replaced. If it is bloching up this quickly, what is to say it wont happen again? Are you washing your car under direct sun light?

I use this stuff for any stains/etc that soap, water, rubbing will not take off......works miracles. However, my trim has been fine to date.

aha, me too. I found out what was causing it though. I've had the car run through 2 touchless car washes (brushless) and they would spray down the car with some type of wax in the end of the cycle and noticed that's where these purple / blue spots are coming from. I can wipe it off with some elbow grease and quick detailer spray.

My car is pretty new...opnly had it a few weeks...NO carwashes yet.

I tired using a quick detailer on it, but to no avail. It looks like a chemical, like a brake cleaner, got dripped onto it.....that is what it looks like to me.

It is not a really big deal...I mean, it is not something really obvious, but it kinda pisses me off that a brand new car has this on it.

Yaayyy! Finally one good thing about "chromeline" trim -- no water spots. (sortof kidding... still hate Chromeline, but am slowly getting used to it).

Have the trim repainted a matte black or glossy black.

That should fix your problems.

Same thing happened to me at a "laser" wash. It looked really bad but I got it to the point where it's not noticable by using the no. 3 polish from Griots. Spots are still there and can be seen if you're looking for them. It was so bad that I asked the parts guy at my dealership how much it would cost to replace the trim and he suggested trying to get it covered under warranty. Retail by the way was approx. $1,600! His comment was - we (the dealer) run cars through a car wash and don't have a problem and the trim should be able to withstand a commercial car wash. I may not do anything at this point since it's not too bad but it's kind of annoying....

You have hard water where you are (a little more lacale info in your data would be good)? No problems here.

Well fellas, that aint my issue. I have not even washed the car yet. Besides, mine is only on the passenger side.

Car is in today for 1,200 mile service. The spotting is something they are going to look at. I will let you know what they say.
