Auto start stop function in 650
I hate this function so much
Does anyone know if ,the auto stop start function can be set to “default to always select on off’ rather than it is always on? Is there a way to rid this stupid thing ? I hate that I always have to hit the button to disable this annoying function. It’s drives me bonkers |

Hmm, it must be a US thing, because you have a 2015 like me and here starting in 2014 you only have to turn it off once and it stays off unless you turn it on again. But it can probably be coded off if you get Bimmercode.

Mine stays in the off position. I don't think I coded it to be like that, so not sure what the issue is on your end. And I agree it sucks.
edit: read Opie's post wrong, so it may be an Australia model thing. You can code it to be "off" as the default |

Yes it can. I had my dealer program my 2013 650ix to default to "Off". |

It will revert back to being on again if you change your Drive Mode, for example, if you go into Eco mode... it will revert back to on and stay that way unless turning it back off. This is what happens in my 2016 640i(x).

That's true, I forgot, but the only time I go to eco mode is to show people the baby blue cluster.

As mentioned above...a simple coding app like BimmerCode could accomplish what you seek. Depending on what model year you have...to deactivate ASS can be found in the FEM or FRM module. (See pic below that shows the option to activate or deactivate ASS.

And while yes I can easily press the button each time I start my car I usually forget, I then pull up to an intersection and the car stops... it’s this hesitation and restart I really don’t like. A few times it’s actually been dangerous such as coming up to roundabouts and you have to merge in quickly after stopping.... I would rather the damn car remained on till I turned it off. Thanks all for the wise advice I’ll have the wretched function disabled by dealer coding as pointed out . |

Another quick trick you can do until you can get it coded off...if you push the gear shift lever over into sport/manual position...ASS will be disabled. Also if you put the car into ECO mode...that will also disable ASS.
Before coding ASS off by default...I found the gear shift lever trick the quickest and easiest way to disengage this feature. My biggest pet peeve with this feature was when I'd pull into the garage...the engine cutting off as I was maneuvering into the "right" spot would get me everytime...so instead of reaching up to turn the ASS button off...I learned to just press the gear shift lever over. You don't even have to return it because as soon as you turn the car off...the gear shift lever goes back to its regular position on its own.

Check here and see if your is compatible. Some good Youtube videos on this too. I coded mine to disable the Auto On/Off function. This is the road some previous posts are trying to lead you on. L |

Luftpost is 100% correct. I used bimmercode to disable the auto on/off on my 650 as well. It does not re-enable when switching modes. It can be turned on by pushing the button on the dash, but will be disabled again next time i start the car.

This is going to sound silly so apologies now....
I’ve downloaded the BimmerCode app and paid for it all good. How on earth do I connect to it or link to the car? What connection should I be using? I can see all the menus but to change anything you need to connect and out of demo mode. It’s not as simple as plugging the iPhone cable into the phone or iPad is it? Cause it just tells me connection error check if adapter is plugged is plugged in, switched on and within range .... what is this ? Your enlightened ways would be greatly appreciated! Do I have to buy a special cable or something? |

Thankfully starting in 2014 here in the US, once you set it to off it remembers. If you change it to Eco Pro, it'll come back on again, of course, because that's supposedly the most economical thing to do.
Call me jaded, but this feature is a good example of manufacturers designing to the emissions tests. I'm not a mechanical engineer (an engineer by background, nonetheless), but I find it very hard to believe that continually stopping and starting your engine is the best thing for it. My last two BMWs have had this feature, and I had them disabled in both instances from the moment I rolled off the dealer lot. No thanks.

Ditto...and be on the lookout for a promo code...you might be able to save a few dollars if you purchase it from Amazon.com...then use the promo code for a bit of a discount.
