M3 bike options help

I own a 335i coupe, and know all options for racks, truck racks, etc.

I am asking for my friend. He must be able to carry two to three bikes on top of his new M3 coupe.

What are you guys doing?

Thanks in advance.

Some of us use our cars.

The M3 can easily carry bikes on the roof, and in fact, you can buy all the accessories to do so through BMW. I suspect you can't get three up top, though.

The yakima bolt-on rack for the roof of the M3 is awesome (as long as it's the same one I used on my E46). No scratching, comes on and off in only a couple minutes, and locks the bikes on solid.

I'm thinking you could get a third bike on there if you turn the middle tray backwards on the rack.

There is a reason that they put the 4 clips into the roof of the M.

Two bikes on the roof. Have you consider using one of those carries that attach to the trunk? I've been using one, it just attach with nylon straps and folds away in seconds. It is also easier to load bikes on.

I want to see a YouTube video of someone actually sitting on the bike on the roof rack while the M3 is going 150 mph. Needs to be filmed by another M3 going 150 along side. Now that would be Mpressive".

Do you know if there are any speed limitations with the bikes mounted on a roof-rack? Part of the reason I purchased my current M-car (E39) was to get to and from the trailhead quickly and, in doing so, I've hit freeway speeds of 110-115mph enroute.

Also, are there any issues with higher g-forces taking a sweeper at, say, 80mph?

Up to now, I've been keeping my mtn bike in my trunk for fear of it ending up as carbon fiber freeway litter. However, I'm now compelled to haul my son's baseball equipment in my trunk much more frequently.

Thx

I used the exact same solution pictured in post #9 above on my E46 M3. IMHO, it's the perfect solution becuae the rack goes on and comes off very easily, plus nothing touches the paint!

Recently sold the base rails for the E46 and will be buying new base rails for the E90 in a couple of months when my M arrives home.
