Bye bye GTS - You won't be missed.
I bought my GTS new and was hoping for it to be a special car... But it isn't. Sad to say but true. The car will never outperform a Porsche GT car.
We all got fooled by BMW's marketing and the car just isn't what it was presented to be, a track car, like a Porsche GT3. It is a nice car but it falls short of a true track car. Check your water injection system. Mine never worked right. BMW changed the system three time and never worked. Short story even shorter, if you want a great car for the street and the track, get a Porsche GT car! Over and out. Last edited by MRakete; 12-30-2019 at 07:27 AM.. |

Okay... honestly, how much of your polemic is value/depreciation based? And did you buy the car with the expectation that it would outperform GT cars?
Sucks you lost a bundle, sucks that your water system never worked. Having no more power than ZCP would diminish the ownership experience. Interested in hearing about any other issues you had Resident Porsche trolls are sure to love this thread.

Two totally different kinds of cars and driving experiences. A lot of people actually own M4 Gts AND Porsche Gt3.
Planning to add Gt3 manual next year but keeping the Gts. Loving the raw feel and the torque down low... FYI, no issue with my water injection at 5,000 miles. |

Who ever said that the M4GTS was suppose to beat Porsche GT???? Its what BMW makes, you either like or not, some are luckier than others. Its a track car compared to its other line up.
*** Caution, Ranting below **** Hell, I bought a GTS last year new from the dealer for below 100k. Yes new, not used, not CPO, just sitting in a dealership showroom. Frankly, I may have been of the luckier ones to buy the car at a lower price with warranty and when you consider the fact that it was limited production, no matter how many clones out there, it is a impressive car straight from the factory. I say impressive because you have to compare what BMW was producing at the time. Some people come from other brands and purchase cars expecting something else. You drive Mercedes, then BMW; you drive Chevy, then buy Ford, Honda to Lexus, and so forth... Now I might be considered a fan boy by some, but I'll list the number of Bimmers I have driven throughout my time of owner ship... 01' 740i Sport 06 M5 (gone ) 15' 320i (2 week rental) 18' X2 (1week rental) 17' 440iGC 14' F10 M5 another 06' M5 17' M2 LLB Stock (DD and Track Use) 16' GTS & 2 M Performance Center Days I list all those not to brag, I'm sure someone else has driven more, but to own and live these cars is different. And to this day, I still know that Porsche is an amazing car. Its not about expecting a car to do more... you want a track car, get the BMW M4 GT4, THAT IS BMWs TRACK CAR! and if you don't want that, you move on. |

If you paid MSRP for the car then I feel for you, the $50k hit in 3 years is brutal. I wasn't shopping for a GTS when they were selling new, but I assume they're like the CS, which AFAIK is selling with heavy discounts from MSRP.
I have limited track experience with the GTS, but I have a lot of track experience in a variety of street and track cars, and you are kidding yourself if you don't think the GTS is a track-prepped car. IMO the major disservice they did to this car was 1: release another ~100 cars for USDM 2: not ship with camber plates/front camber adjustment. The first definitely impacts depreciation, the second is the only mod you need for a pretty great street-legal track toy. I'd love a Nurburgring time with camber plates, curious to see what the car would gain. Would also love to see an IR scan of the front tires of BMW's Nurburgring run, I bet those shoulders were scorching hot. Anywho, bye Felicia. |

BMW did the same thing with the e28 M5 when they offered it in the US. I have upgraded to camber plates and the euro seats and it makes a significant change to the car. Wish the car could easily accommodate more tire. It's only significant shortcoming. IMHO Otherwise, best track focused car BMW has offered is in the US. I haven't had much trouble running with GT3's and some Cup cars here in Florida. |

It simply didn't live up to the price tag, that's all. There is a reason people are buying new one's still sitting on the lot for 100k. Not that it's not a great or special car, because it is. Just that what you got for almost twice the price didn't add up. I was talking to a CS owner yesterday at the track about what a cool car this would be to own at sub 80k.

We can talk specs all day, but if the car doesn't feel special to you, the car doesn't feel special to you. End of story.

Sorry to hear that and good luck.
I can see how this can be a relevant conversation for some when considering how much the brand GTS cost at the time. In my case I always thought the M4 alone should have been as good or special as the GTS, so buying an unmollested GTS at mid $80K price point was a no brainer in comparison to how much a brand new fully loaded M4 would have cost me. And since I was not interested in chasing or matching the Porsche GT cars in the race track at a cost of additional $40K or more, I set my expectations based on what GTS alone had to offer for me. |

The only thing I am bum about is the water injection not working. I actually don't know any GTS with a water injection working unless it is an aftermarket set up. |

About the water injection I have heard of sporadic failures but not massive failures. If you have the means and desire to get into the porsche then that is good and I encourage you to do so. They are objectively better track cars. there is a reason you see dozens and dozens of them at the Nurbergring. The M4 and GTS versions aren't for everybody. Sorry to hear you were disappointed in your personal experience. |

I don't think you can compare an M4 GTS to a 911 GT3 or GT3 RS.
Firstly, the GT3 STARTS at $143,000. The GT3 RS from $187,500. By the time you option anything the GT3 is at the RS starting price and the GT3 RS is $250,000. If you can score an M4 GTS for around $100,000, it's a hell of a car for the money. And another thing that lots overlook, GTS software gives new life to the standard F80/F82. GTS steering is absolutely incredible, the GTS DCT flash transforms the car, and GTS MDM is much nicer than standard. Toss in CS EDC and you're set. And lets not forget how amazing the GTS hood looks on ANY F80/F82. The M4 GTS did more for BMW than most will admit. Years down the line it will be remembered fondly. IMO. My one complaint? No water injection retrofit kit from BMW! |

Wait, you're out of Denver? I'm just right up the road. Curious what sort of times you were hitting at HPR. I did find I had to run with no traction control as MDM was useless, but I didn't have any unusual behaviors putting power down coming out of any corners. I wasn't monitoring IATs, but without water injection I could see IATs being a serious problem. I drove the car as hard as the tires would hold up to.
