Inside tire wear recommendations

Had my car in at the dealer yesterday for oil change and inspection. Also annoyed that Mercedes Benz, the dealer I bought the car from, who did the initial oil change put a really cheap aftermarket filter on the m3. Here is a video of my inspection showing the filter.

For my fronts, the inside wears much faster than the outside. I recall the outside looked okay, but the inside wore down past the fiber. The dealer had said I should get the tires replaced immediately. I'm on stock suspension.

The original owner may have also had the front camber set way more aggressively than stock.

I have camber plates on my car (because occasional track car) and I excessively wear the inside edge of the front tires. When the camber plates were first installed, I had an aggressive camber setting but the street tires lasted less than 10K miles. I had the camber reset to something less aggressive and that helped.

If you're not planning on tracking the car, I would suggest getting an all wheel alignment and having the front camber set as close as possible to stock. Another important setting is toe-in, which should be set to zero.

Another option would be to just have the aftermarket camber plates removed, but I'm guessing that you don't have the original camber plates from the original owner. You might be able to find stock camber plates in the classified section from someone who's installed aftermarket camber plates. They're not hard to install yourself, but you'll need some specialized sockets and a good spring compressor which won't slip. Any competent independent BMW mechanic should be able to do the work for a few hundred dollars.

Hi, my F80 came with almost zero rear toe and the car loved to power oversteer.

I ended up adding more rear toe in (i.e. more positive toe than the factory spec) to help with this.

OP, my advice would be to track the car and corner it hard so you can even out the wear to the outer part of the tire

It is GREAT your car has front camber plates. It is one less thing for you to spend on, as lack of front camber is a key deficiency in our cars

Also when you look at the tires you can definitely see that they’ve been tracked. I wouldn’t worry about it because any one who takes Racing seriously would never track these 20 inch wheels. So I’m assuming maybe one track day or so.
