Hi - Potential new owner!
I'm currently pondering on selling my current fleet (megane and vx220) so we can just have one car. I fancy something reasonably bokners and love the look of the z4 and was surprised to see the "M" is within our budget.
I know next to nothing about BMWs as a whole so would appreciate some info on the Z4M. What are they linke to live with daily? What are the service intervals and costs? Can you buy inclusive service packages from BMW? Are big bills an accepted part of ownership? Thanks in advance! |

The Z4M is an amazing car, it's a blast to drive, rare on the roads, and the engine sound is euphoric.
However, I don't know if I'd call it a daily-driver car. Can you?... yes. Would I want to?... probably not. Service on an M car will cost more then a normal BMW (especially if you're anal about keeping your car performing well, and want it to last). Not sure how it works over there, but in the U.S., BMW offers both an extended warranty and extended maintenance packages.

I bought my Z4M 10 days ago! They really have plummetted in value and I bought an ex-BMW GB car, Feb 08 registered, 3300 miles and all the toys for a silly cheap price; amazing value for an M car I thought!
I drove a Z4 2.2i SE 4 years ago and have since owned an E46 330cd M Sport convertible and an E92 335i SE. Given that we also have an E91 325i SE, my wife and I decided I could get a toy again but it is my daily commuter too... I drive 21 miles each way to work and take a leisurely A and B road route avoiding the congested motorways. The engine is still tight and I'm averaging around 25 mpg; I have managed 300 miles / tank but expect this to be 250 if you have even a little fun. I find the car surprisingly comfortable - more so than the 3.0si M Sport I test drove. I had heard that the clutch was heavy and gear changes notchy but discovered this to be no worse than my 335i was and my wife has no problems driving the car at all - indeed, she asks for the keys every day!!! lol I wrote about it here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=165781

FYI: I'm not sure if you want z4 as the only car. You can't carry/load up much things in our small z4s.

hmm i wouldnt get one as a daily, in that case it would be M3 for sure. mine's just for weekends, i could probably use it daily because i like it, but secretly i'd get sick of some things in the city.... visibility, heavy clutch/box, cabin space, cabin storage, trunk space, bumpy as hell, no back seat...... but on the weekends most of those things turn into advantages

fridaypassion, have you checked into the availability of the Z4 M? Are you planning to find one used or have you seen some that are for sale new on a dealer lot? I only ask as the Z4 is finished production.
