Exhaust suggestions?
Hey everyone! Long time lurker, first post.
Have a 2011 M3 and looking into exhaust options. The current exhaust is stock but the previous owner cut off the secondary cats and resonators then welded everything together as one peice. I am debating between modifying the (kinda) stock exhaust to be able to swap back and forth between street and track use, or buying a second entire exhaust setup for track and swap the entire setup each time. So my first question - is it possible to cut the primary cats off in a way that they can be reattached without welding? Example to swap in test pipes for track use then switch back for street use and inspection. As for an aftermarket exhaust I have decided on the akra slip on and the RKP stainless steel sport x-pipe as it has sport cats to avoid the smell. Second question: am I missing anything or will this combination work ou t without needing to make any cuts? I've worked on my E36 plenty but haven't touched any exhaust work. The least expensive route - cut off the stock tail end and swap for akra, buy some test pipes for when I want to track it. Most expensive (and time consuming) - buy a new slip on and x-pipe and swap everything each time. Thanks in advance! |

Becker exhaust system. Cheap and sounds great. Modify the test pipe area with clamps that let you swap out cats or no cats. I have one for sale but only local to VA, not shipping it since I welded it all into 1 piece.
