Debating on whether or not a radar detector is actually worth it in NJ nowadays, or if I'm just looking for more excuses to buy stuff online.
I can get a decent deal on Uniden R3. I know a radar detector can only help so much, and I don't think I would go the laser jammer route, so my question is: are radar detectors even worth it nowadays? Aren't most PD/NJSP using LiDAR? Or is Ka still common? For people that use a RD, do you actually get value out of it or did you just get one to have backup protection/keep you more alert when driving/add more stuff to your car? |

If Ka band is widely used in your area, then the R3 is a fantastic RD. If LIDAR is used exclusively, no RD, unless one with jammers would work.
In CA, Ka is most often used. So I run a segmented R3 and Waze when driving on the freeway. Neither is full proof but can and will provide ample warning. |

Ka 34.7 is used heavily in the northeast, Radar Detectors are definitely still helpful. I can confirm that it saved my ass as recent as this week on the Henry Hudson pkwy lol
Waze + RD keeps me out of trouble |

in early January i was late to a meeting
i was doing triple digits and my passport max 360 picked up KA band and the arrow pointed at the direction that i was traveling so i slowed down to around 80. and boom state trooper sitting in the middle of bridge column totally hidden running radar.. without the radar detector i would have been going to jail not to the meeting |

From Manhattan and frequently drive in the tri-state area and to MA and PA. Absolutely still helpful, I often find myself taking it from car to car when I switch. I went from a V1 to an Escort 9500ix to an R3. R3 is the best experience I've had so far! Check out this super helpful website below:

It is usually the first thing I put in any new car I get. Partly piece of mind, partly early warning. It has definitely saved me many times. Invest in a newer unit that avoids false alarms from other vehicles, and known false signals.

Anyone know how the Uniden R7 compares to the R3.
I have a Valentine 1. Has anyone seen reviews of the new Valentine compared to these Unidens?
