Seems like they are everywhere now. Got a ticket in the mail for 50 bucks by my parents house for going 36 in a 25 (city wide default speed limit).
I'm not going to install a plate cover on my car because that just invites the police to pull me over. Does anyone know of an app that notifies you of the locations of these cameras as you are driving? Waze does it but from what I know it has to be navigating you somewhere. I don't want to put in destinations that are local that I already know. I'd rather it track my position and notify me of an upcoming speed camera. It's amazing how small and hidden these things are. They say it is meant to slow down cars in school zones. The location where I got my ticket is no where near a school so I guess they expanded that definition. If the intent was to slow cars down then why not post a sign that the camera is there to begin with. That will surely slow people down more than sending tickets after the fact (I already know the answer, just pointing out their flawed logic).

You don't need to use a destination w/ Waze, I use it all the time w/out one.

Yea.... on union turnpike I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten a ticket for 36 in a 25. I even remind myself the block before “ok slow down there’s a money maker ahead”, yet most of the times I’m just a hair over 35. Since November 2019 I must have spent $700 on these stupid speed cameras. And I’m honestly I’m a safe driver too, which is why this is so infuriating. It’s getting to the point where there’s this one notorious speed camera and you see everyone braking right before they pass it because you can guess they’ve all been caught before.
I made up my mind to get a license plate cover or spray. This isn’t a safety issue; this is the City being petty and finding ways to get revenue from mostly hardworking people. I’ve been spending my days doing the research on the best anti-speed camera solution. I’ve read up on the Phantom Plate Blocker but also heard it’s basically glorified clear coat spray in a fancy bottle that doesn’t really work. If I buy a license plate cover, I can get a ticket from cops. Maybe I’ll get the clear license plate cover which is less noticeable to the eye and is also said to be effective |

Apparently a lot of them are on vehicles or towable/movable units |

Plus, they're legal in the state of NY to help alert you of red light, speed cameras and speed traps from police lasers. I am definitely happy with my R3. The only cons: overly sensitive and false alerts from time to time. |

Got caught in Brooklyn in my Stelvio. Didn't realize until the flash got me. I didn't think I was going very fast nor did I even notice it. Didn't know the area, payment sent.

The Uniden R3/R7 utilizes GPS to detect most known stationary red light and speed cameras by their lat/long coordinates. These lat/long coordinates are stored in an internal database inside the detector. The MRCD is a "newer" type of radar mainly used but not limited to mobile units (like in Maryland which has
suv's set up in construction zones). MRCD sweeps across the road, so it can be a little more difficult for with MRCD detection to detect these. The nice thing about the Uniden R3/R7 is that you can set your own custom marks. Basically if you know there is a certain spot where you constantly see a police speed trap or speed cameras, you can "mark" that location for future notification by the detector. Another nice feature is that Uniden provides free radar updates to the detector firmware (new features) and an update to the red light/speed cameras database. Beltronics charges a subscription for their red light/speed cameras database. |
