VRSF mid-pipe & 90mm tips install '15 F82
So this time around on this early '15 M4 (MY 04/14) i just got I am changing things up a bit and have decided to semi-custom modify the stock exhaust system instead of slapping on a aftermarket system so I am taking out the mid pipes & secondary cats but retaining the rear can and valving. I am looking forward to the sound it is capable of with the stock rear end and more growl.... Oh and the additional TQ
Before me I have a VRSF mid-pipe and 90mm tips. Unboxing it now, install will be this weekend...... Unit arrived in wonderful condition, packaged tightly and complete. Big fat pipe brushed surface, nice welds. I only need to figure out where the cuts on the old exhaust will be. The tips will look awesome when I choose a diffuser for them to fill... big, shinny, business like On to the pics, let me know if you want any close-ups of anything........Enjoy Attached Images I will follow up with install process then sound clips Last edited by horsepower_and_hounds; 02-13-2024 at 02:29 PM.. |

Thanks mark5092....
So today i did the install and learned something...... My garage is good for doing mods but not the best for doing exhaust work. I really need a lift! But I got it done I used a pipe cutting tool to keep the cut even, I followed the AA mid pipe measurements since i didn't have any of my own and it was close but not perfect. Might be something VRSF can include in theft going forward. Everything went well, since my car came from Salt Lake City, UT it was slightly rusted and corroded underneath so took it slow and easy taking bolts out and such. I used a jack to lower the big piece of scrap I was taking out..... I purchased new gaskets from them and it was wise...one came out clean and one I had to destroy to get out. I paid great attention at the cross brace so I don't have any interference.... I spaced the stock one down to clear for now...I think I remember some one selling modified ones. I used 2 washers between the arm, moved the brace from under to the top and put 1 washer in-between. Then stacked 5 washers under the outside tabs. I used 242 lock-tite on the bolts just in case. Everything aligned perfectly Then once all was hooked up I started once again in the front and went along torquing and verifying clearance along the way. Then I installed VRSF tips, I will fine tune the alignment once it runs thru a couple heat cycles and I go re-torque everything and verify I have no riding conditions. it is a nice touch the way the clamps have a hole so the pin can capture it. I angled them in the same direction to make them look symmetrical. it was dark when I finished so will check for leaks, rattles and etc tomorrow, I will try and get a sound clip in also..... This think is a helluva bargain Hit me up for question if any.... pics Last edited by horsepower_and_hounds; 02-13-2024 at 02:29 PM.. |

So here are two videos. The first is of the stock exhaust in both efficient then I switch to sport to open valves. The second video is the same thing except with the mid pipe and tips installed. I have a completely 100% stock motor with a BM3 stage 1 93 tune and valves switchable to open in sport & sport +
As you can hear the tone gets much deeper and a lot of the rasp is gone. It is so much better when the car is under load it is hard to capture. When your cruising down the highway in efficient and the valves are closed it seems completely stock. When you open the valves and get into it...yummy I will try and get some drive by clips at a later date once I figure out the best way to do it. But at this point the VRSF mid pipe did what i hoped it would and awakens the stock exhaust.......i have no need to get a aftermarket unit. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LWc...ew?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NLm...ew?usp=sharing I wil be working on tip modification soon.... I plan on cutting the stock exit pipes back so they are nit so obvious |

Ok it's done.......
I dropped the back section today to clean up the tip install. I measured off the amount I needed there to make the exit pipe line up with the flare in the tips. Much better...... Here you gooooooooo When I can get someone to help out I will attempt to get some take off & drive by audio Last edited by horsepower_and_hounds; 02-13-2024 at 02:29 PM.. |

Every modded car I see has exhaust branded or carbon tips....this is a change, simple, classic and slightly bling...thought the size might add to the sound too Last edited by horsepower_and_hounds; 06-14-2020 at 06:13 AM.. |
