Rock chip / touch up paint

Apologies if this thread may be duplicated. This evening I discovered a rock chip on my front bumper (see photos).

Looking for advice on best method to get corrected.

That doesn’t look like a chip. It looks like the paint is flaking off. Did you buy the car used? I bet the front bumper was previously repainted and it wasn’t prepped correctly.

You can use Dr. ColorChip for a quick touch up but it can keep flaking off.

Part the car out!!!!

Jk.
I’ve tried touch up paint with both good and bad results. Good luck with your decision.

Looks like a cheap paint job. Just get the whole bumper repainted and be done with it.

If you are the original owner, the original warranty is still in effect, and the paint is truly chipping off without having been previously repainted, you may be able to have the bumper repainted under warranty.

This happened to my wife's previous 2011 335is Coupe. After about three years we started noticing small specks of blue on the garage floor near the front bumper. Upon closer examination, the Le Mans Blue paint was chipping off the bumper in the compound creases around the front air dams.

The next time we took it into the dealer for scheduled maintenance and showed them where the paint was chipping off, they had some one from BMW look at it and they authorized the front bumper to be repainted at one of the best body shops in the area. We had the car for about another four years with no additional problems.

If it actually is a rock chip, then try Dr. ColorChip, although that's a pretty large chip for that process.

Another option is a shop that specializes in bumper repair and PDR. Several years ago when I had my S2000 in Silverstone Metallic, I took it to a local SoCal chain called Bumper Doc. They had a service where they would fix all chips and charged based on the size and number of repairs. They also fixed a couple of door dings with PDR. When I picked up the car I was amazed at the great job they did for a relatively reasonable price. It literally looked like it was brand new.

Rock chips usually leave a dent. That is flaking off.

-Bought used and warranty just expired . I took it to get inspected by a reputable paint specialist in my area. Plan on getting it repainted in the next few weeks.
