Selling my M4, brings out the crazies

Selling my M4 https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1730711

and it brought out all the crazies.

One guy wants me to take $10,000 now and hold for 3, 4 5 months then pay me the rest.

Several people ask me to finance the sale

I get a lot of "are you a dealer?" I guess this is now common because dealer adds are mixed in with private sales.

i would just ignore any offer that doesn't make sense and clearly stipulate this is a cash only sale.

i used to sell things I no longer wanted on Kijiji (Canada's craigslist) and got tired of the stupid offers/no shows. No i just throw everything out - not worth the time lol.

Years ago, I owned a bad ass 240sx; wide body and all the goodies. I posted for sale and a guy called and was interested. So I met him at a gas station and he showed up with his girlfriend (young dude, maybe 20?) He starred at the car for about 15 minutes without any questions, comments, nothing.

So I found it funny at that point and decided to remain silent too. The silence went on for about 40 minutes (he just spins around the car with his partner and just whispers to her)

Finally, I found it not so funny anymore and was like, sooooo any questions? He said no, I'm good. I just turned on my car and left without saying anything. Lol, awkward and funny.

Years ago I never would have considered trading in my old vehicle at a dealer and taking a bath on it.

Now however, I’m more than willing to take a 4-5k hit on trading in versus a private sale just so I don’t have to deal with the mass jackass idiots we’re surrounded with these days. Time is money so if I get a respectable offer at a dealer, I’m just trading the damned thing in.

I recently went through this selling 2 motorcycles through Facebook Marketplace.

It is so frustrating how many people are so lazy that they can't read the description.

Miles? ...Listed in the ad
Mods? ...Listed in the ad
Condition? ...Listed in the ad

It only gets worse when the value of the item is relatively low.

I sold my son's 2012 Civic (my car, he drove it) when he went into the Army. I didn't want to deal with all the crazies so I enlisted a friend who own's a landscaping business. He's like the houseflipper, go to the junk yard to find stuff kind of guy. I told him I need $9k for the car, any more than that you keep half. He sold it for $9650. He makes $325 for a couple of hours of work and I get $300 more than it would of traded for in my pocket.

tell me about it. I've been trying to sell my 458 for what seems like forever. high end car sales just aren't moving these days. My options are either trade into the dealer and take 10k less than what I want. or keep trying to talk to these idiots on autotrader.

one thing that might help: before you even engage in a back and forth is to have them shoot you a number on what they think the car is worth. if they are way off base then just ignore them. saves you a bunch of time and hassle.

ive seen offers of land in Canada + cash to trades with 1970s porsches lol. even had a guy who was dead set on a ppi and everything and then his wife finds out about his secret Ferrari purchase and so he has to bail.

The M4 selling experience is one of the worst. People who qualify for good lease terms would rather pay a cheaper monthly on a new car than spend more to build equity in a used one. People who don't qualify or are depreciation-sensitive are often looking for a below-market deal.

The worst part is the general lack of inbound leads. I'm convinced this forum is only good for transferring cheap CS leases (with no money on top, of course). I've had 4 M4s and have sold all elsewhere after having them up on here for months.

Every time I say, "Never again", I see those wide hips on the road and say, "Maybe if I just buy it right this time ..."

Sold my convertible 2 weeks ago to a customer of mine because he insisted he wanted it and now I can't find any other car that will fill that void. This is the perfect spec I would want.

GLWS!

Selling a car private sale is definitely a trip these days. Lots of inexperience in buyers and sellers. I was going to buy a vw tdi for a commuter, long story short get ready to get a cashiers check and the guys like "oh the title is held through an online bank"

That's totally normal once cars getting cheaper at some point.

I'm in the same boat and really willing to take couple thousands cut and sell it to the dealership or keep my M4 as a track car.

As more people asking all kinds of questions or asking for pictures as less they are interested to buying the car. Not sure if kids are bored because of the pandamic?
