MY16 Apple CarPlay coding no hardware

So there's coders out there who claim that because I have NBT EVO on my iDrive 4 (2 GB RAM vs 4GB on the new ones) I can code in CarPlay and iD6 lite without any hardware except a WiFi antenna. It's a couple hundred $$.

The issue is, I have half the RAM so it may be laggy & reboot which is my fear.

Anyone with '15 or '16 do this? Just code it in + add some WiFi antenna anyway and get CarPlay? I've been told by coders it won't lag but I want to hear from people who actually have done it and I have a hard time finding anyone that has. I have iDrive 4 with NBT EVO.

Exactly. I hear people do it but I haven't met a single person or even seen on a forum that has. And I've searched thoroughly on here cuz CarPlay transforms your interior in my opinion lol I really would like it.

I've been told the same thing for my 16 model.

I really want CarPlay but it looks like the hardware to do it is $1200 from the companies I've spoken with.

Would be very interested in a sub $400 way to get carplay

I've been told sub 400 for coding plus a WiFi antenna (wifi antenna is cheap)

Yea, a 2016 MY iDrive with CarPlay flashed and active is like a gay Republican; I've heard that they exist but I have yet to actually meet a single one.. So to speak

I'd be interested in the more cost effective method as well. Just picked up my 2015 F82 M4.

Can anyone share which system the car currently has?

Been looking at the NBT EVO ID5/ID6 system from BimmerTech and must say that thing is nice but pricey.

Just found this today and purchased.

Here's the video of the install:

Pretty straightforward, $350 shipped. Apparently it's cheaper on Amazon but it said they're 3-5 weeks out there.

Going to give this a try and report back.

You already have NBT EVO, why don't you just try coding through kubax86? costs around the same maybe a little less. That's what we're all trying to figure out.

I contacted him in April and he said it wasn't possible after running my VIN. Unless something has changed since then...

I got a 16 F82 and I can. Ask again now maybe he learned how to do it on our cars. Not to make you the Guinean pig but if you're gonna do it anyway why not try this way.
