Consensus on short shifter?
Howdy, maybe because I’m spending too much time around the house, or maybe because my son’s new E46 has a UUC installed, I’m considering a short shifter.
Would you consider it a good idea on the F80/82? For ex. On the E46, the UUC is too notchy for my taste, and it doesn’t speed up the shifting, quite the opposite. On my F80, I’ve never had any problems shifting fast on track, but at the same time wouldn’t mind a 25-30% reduction in shift travel, and perhaps enhanced feel. I’ve heard only good things about the Autosolutions SSK, whereas UUC and Rogue have always had a bit of mixed reviews... Please talk me into or out of this idea. Your comments are appreciated, as always.

It's a fantastic idea, although I'd only get the AutoSolutions kit myself.
For me it's most a matter of feel and precision. I also suggest the UCP for the pedal. |

From that perspective, the OEM F80 shifter is very good, meaning there are very small chances for a missed shift. Would you say the Autosolutions kit increases the chances of a money shift?

The only shifter i've ever money-shifted in is a CAE shifter. Two different E36s. Fortunately I wasn't shifting at redline so it wasn't an actual money shift Back in my E46M I had a 30% reduction kit and used the Jaffster knob... that was such a perfect combo. I have a lot of experience in CAE shifter cars and still prefer that.

Love the Autosolutions ssk on my F82. Also added the Turner rear shift carrier bushing. Shifts noticeably shorter and more precise.

Both times it was 5th which turned into 3rd, upshifting from 4th. Some would say I should learn how to shift, but i've been driving stick for my whole life, tracking stick for years and it's happened twice in two different cars with the same shifter: CAE. Obviously you can't compare the epicness of the CAE giant ass shifter to an AS which looks almost stock |

I just bought the Turner bushing, please tell me what you think it added to the experience. I wanted to install it on the OEM shifter - foolish?

Definitely not foolish, might even make stock shifter seem less sloppy. Considering it is such an easy install why not give it a shot? I will be curious to hear what you think. |
