PFC 08 Pads on New OEM Rotors with Cross-Pattern - Ok on Track?

I just had new OEM rotors and new OEM pads put on my car - and I have driven about 350 miles on the new rotors with OEM pads.

However - I have a track event coming up and I want to swap in my PFC 08 pads - I don't think this is an issue - but I'm posting here to be sure - if the new rotors still have the cross-patterns on them - is there any reason why I cannot drive on the track with the PFC 08 pads?

Again - I'm assuming this is not a problem - but I don't have enough engineering, mechanical or technical background to know for sure...

Yes, it’s fine just do it! I’ve put new rotors on in the paddock and just went out on track several times! Some got new pads, some got the pads that were on the previous rotors. Tracked rotors will crack to the edge long before they wear out.

The cross hatch pattern on the rotors is simply to speed up the bedding process. Your PF08 will just bed in faster .

I am in the exact same situation, just got new rotors fitted two days ago, straight with PF08 pads .

Good to go, did the same thing before Watkins Glen last year. The 08 compound gets REALLY hot though. Bring fluid if it's a multi-day event.

My PFC08 melted to my brake rotors at Watkins last year. Probably from the 130+mph on the back straight after the essess, slamming on the breaks into the bus stop. PFC08 was a great pad, but too bad our stock brakes really need better cooling. Needless to say, I decided that Essex 9660/9446 was in order, which I'm getting installed as we speak.

The plus side was that I didn't have any brake screeching for a few weeks while the pad material wore away! Normally those PFC08 are loud as hell.

Did you cool them a little bit/avoid using e-brake? I only had the stock pads melt.

I just had my first full day in outrageous heat (LRP) with the 9660. Pre-ABS all day long. You don't even understand how good it is going to feel. Pedal never got soft and still feels great. On a day like that, my stock setup would be garbage by mid 2nd session.

Yes I did not use the brake and had plenty of rest time in between sessions. Rotors were doing the typical crazy ticking noise after each session. Maybe the correct term would be pad smear, not melt. It definitely happened from the hard braking on the back straight... these are heavy cars. It was a hot summer day also, last August.

AP Racing kit installed today. Havent had a chance to test them out much, but I was happy that the DS2500 didn't squeal like some people said they would. Started raining, didn't get a chance to test them out yet. Will do so soon.

Any advice on a better pad than HAWK HP+? I currently use them for the track and spirited driving on the weekends. Looking for something still useable on street but much better for track if it exists .

There is no such thing as an ideal pad for both street and track. It’s a scale of compromise, depending which end of the spectrum you want to favor. There are several options that offer better track performance than the HP+. I have experience with Pagid RSL29 and Performance Friction PF08. Both are better than the HP+ on track with the PF08 being better than the RSL29 on track but worse on the street (more squeal and tougher on rotors).

I used the Hawk Blue compound in an enduro Miata, it was a perfect enduro pad for that platform. No aggressive initial bite, so it reduced the odds of locking the fronts and flat-spotting. I'm not sure if the Blue would overheat in our platform though.

I've also used the DTC-70 on a ~3200lb STI. That platform struggled with brake cooling, and it had ~400whp, so not too dissimilar from the F8x. The 70s were perfect for track use, but squealed like a pig on the street. If you wanted to stick with Hawk, maybe the HT-10?

I have the PFC08 and they are great! Definitely a little squeaky around town lol.

Thanks and yeah I want to be lazy and not have to switch them out :P. I actually have been tracking the HPS and not HP+. I just bought the HP+ and plan on using that on the track to see how it goes. I guess I need to stop being lazy if I want best of both worlds.

I am getting lazy with age, I just endure the squeal and the slap driving on the street during the track season

I’m used to the squeal and pad slap with PFC08’s on the car when I’m driving and trying to minimize pad squeal and other noises.

As a passenger your thoughts are, do you just not care about the noise. They have no idea how you are trying to minimize this shit.

It’s like your wife asking, can’t you stop smoother?

PFC08 is a great pad for track not for street. They are easy to bed in. depends on how hard your drive / tires and track M4 brakes wont hold. Need some type of cooling.

My wife can't stand it when I'm leaving and coming home! Track day in 2 weeks... I'm too lazy to swap for that.

i used Pagid RS29 for years then this year i switched to PFC08. is it me or this thing makes a lot of humming noise when driving around in street? as soon as i step on brake gently it makes humming noise and as it slows down more it gets louder sometimes it vibrates the car. the pads are pretty worn , 20% of pads left. and yes they're cold since i drive around in street . at the track after a lap or 2 they seeem to be fine but then again it's loud to hear what's going on due to wind noise. typical PFC08 cold brake effect or something wrong with my brakes and perhaps rotors? rotors have 35 hours of tracks on them or 6 events
