Manual Transmission Oil Capacity

Hi, I am a new owner of 2008 128i convertible with 82K miles on it. The previous owners took very good care of the car and it is in excellent condition. The previous owner replaced almost everything except the serpentine belt and the gear and differential oil. I am planning to change the gear and differential oil. I have searched online and I cannot find the capacity for the gear oil. I would appreciate if some one can post here the oil capacity for the 6 speed manual transmission and what type of gear oil would you recommend.

Thanks in advance for your help.

About 2L. I used Redline MTL in my 128i and like a lot (per Mike Miller's recommendation).

But like you, I don't live where it gets cold. If I did, I would probably stick to he ATF that Redline recommends. I used the BMW magical unicorn tears OEM fluid in my 328i (because I had to buy 4L of it and the car was under warranty), I think the MTL shifts rather nicer. Next time it will get MTL too.

I see that there are at least two different manual transmission for 2008 128i. How can I find out which one is in my car?

I believe there are some sites that list all the options for your vehicle once you put in the VIN. Does anyone have that?

The one I liked most is now defunct - MDecoder
However, you can create a login at BMW corporate site and get that info for your car
