Catless DP, Soul performance exhaust combo NOT GOOD

Recently went catless on my 2013 bmw m5. Went with project gamma downpipes paired with my Soul Performance exhaust.

The sound is HORRIFIC.

My car literally makes a farty sound (like an F80 F82) when I'm heavy on the throttle. Completely wasn't what I was expecting. Debating either swapping exhaust to stock or removing the catless downpipes outright.

Anyone had the same experience with this combo?

I have a 2014 M5CP with full M Performance Akrapovic titanium exhaust system and a valve controller, I'm pretty happy with the overall sound impression. I'm will never sound like my former AMGs, but it's a deep tone growl and loud enough at full throttle. My downpipes are OEM, the remaining parts are Akrapovic. It's insanely expensive, but I opted for this system in many of my M cars. And it's TÜV approved, absolute must here in Germany.

So I had Fabworx Catless downpipes with a similar setup to Soul (muffler delete with resonators replacing the mufflers). Was very happy with this setup

I agree with everything Ickdeep said.

I have catless ER downpipes paired with the Soul axle back and I like the sound.

These smaller displacement V8 motors aren’t going to sound like a muscle car - they’re going to be slightly higher pitched. I also agree with Craze that inside the cab it does sound slightly less desirable.

Have someone else drive the car, follow them with your window down. I would find it really hard to believe you don’t like the sound!

Can't do anything about the farty sound. That's bmw's anti lag system. Catless exhaust just amplifies the sound.

I think Mike did a good job in this video comparing the Soul paired with stock vs catless DP’s. The different camera perspectives captured the sound pretty well.

This is a issue that goes back all the way to the original S63/N63 engines. You have to run aftermarket resonators if you want to kill the tinny/farty noise (espeically on upshifts) that comes out with certain downpipe/muffler combos.

We have been using the resonators below on the E70 & F85 platforms with N63/N63TU & S63/S63TU with excellent results. Allows you to keep your aftermarket downpipes and mufflers. There are many different sized resonators to choose from for further customizing the sound if you want and different lengths that will fit the F10.

The drone the soul created made it not worth it if you are catless, they look good

You may like catless + oem mufflers. If you currently have the soul the oem will slip straight back using the soul clamps.Based on your note, the soul product may suit oem DPs for you (with asd off). I'm assuming you did turn asd off already to see if it's bearable for you.

I would keep catless for the performance gains if I was in your shoes. Easier to swap out the mufflers than the DPs.

I went through several setups when I had my F10 M5. Ended with this one which was amazing inside and out. No fart noises and no drone.

Mike from SOUL here. Pardon my late response and sorry to hear you're not pleased with the result - people's opinions on the bypass / downpipes combo setup is polarizing. The majority of my customers LOVE it but it's not for everyone. When you delete the cats and run no muffler, you're relying on very little to control tone. The race resonators are designed to cut down on drone and rasp but they can only do so much. Are you more specifically referring to traction control kicking in and making those farty / bark sounds?

Running a system with mufflers may be a better fit for those that are downpipe centric and want performance without a loud exhaust note. If anyone is ever on the fence about considering exhaust upgrades I'm always happy to chat to make sure you get what you're looking for - SOUL exhaust or not.

I'm probably the only person here between both M5's and M6's forums that has an IPE Titanium full system with titanium cat-less downpipes.

It sounds badass and I measured the decibles at wide open throttle to be around 104db which is around 10dbs louder than stock at wide-open throttle.
