There is no "programming" for the key, once it is made by BMW and shipped to the dealer it is only "learning" procedure and you can do it yourself.See details here
https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1336313
You can order the key from any BMW dealership or from BimmerTech.
Check this thread for the key prices:

This thread was updated recently and the guy claims that you can program your own key which I doubt.

Generally speaking there is no real hookup pricing here. All costs about the same due to the fact that keys are being shipped from BMW directly for specific VIN number. You can save some money on a) cutting the physical door key with your local locksmith b) doing the learning procedure yourself c) compare prices and see if some middle of nowhere dealer will give you a discount on a key.

In the E70 forums, I recall reading that for CA residents, the cost was a lot cheaper. I could be wrong, but call this number to check:

Wonder how that works, did that guy checked your registration and ID or something? Or you just give them the VIN and he got you a new key?

True.
That is what they did where I went(San Diego)
It took a 40 min~ 1hr. Took out a small box (passenger side) and they programed into a new key.
He told me he can only program a new key and I paid $300

I found the place.
