Oil Temp Won't Move 08 N54

Oil temp won't exceed 160 degrees. Even after 30 minutes of driving, the needle won't move on the temp gauge. I plugged in my MHD module and it shows the same (159*).

Has anyone ever had this issue?

I can't find conclusive information online if it is the oil level sensor in the oil pan, or the oil pressure switch, that give the oil temp reading. Also, is it possible the sensor is not broken, but the oil for some reason is not getting to temp?

There are no codes thrown.

From my understanding, the oil thermostat is within the oil cooler housing. Could that have busted/been misaligned?

Any way to tell if it is a sensor vs thermostat issue?

What is the outside temp? Can take a LONG time for the oil to warm up when cold. When it is significantly below freezing, my N55 135i would never reach full oil operating temp, even after several hours of driving.

It was about 60 degrees Fahrenheit outside, really not that cold at all. However, I did not ever "get on it" and this is the first time I drove it in three weeks. Maybe I should try getting it to 160, then revving it up and see if it gets hotter?

I was inspecting my oil cooler housing, and felt underneath it - covered in soot. There must be an oil leak at the oil cooler gasket. So I ordered a new oil cooler housing with gaskets, and I'm hoping the new thermostat solves the issue. If it doesn't, I'll replace the level sensor in the oil pan next, because the more i'm reading, the more I believe that is where the temp sensor is.

Just FYI, the engine runs the hottest at steady highway cruising.
