AC main flap noise

Hi guys!

I need your help finding out a way to lubricate a main IHKA vent flap. It is the one that opens and closes when you start the car and when it goes to sleep. It changes also when moving right temp slider and it makes some fine adjustments on its own... I believe it is the flap for outside are circulation.

Would it be possible to access with a long staw and inject some silicone grease to the rubber or something?

It drives me crazy. Not that first time it opens but that mini adjustments that creaks all the time in the vent when it moves during the driving.

Thanx for you help. Really appreciate it.

Take care,
BimmerSI

Well I managed to dig into this a little further. BMW is actualy aware of this issue and recommends lubrication of stratification motors. The problem is that car has several flap motors. Couple are accessable, many not. In my case I would have to lubricate mixing flap actuator that is located further inside the air distribution compartment. BMW suggests removing whole dashboard to gain access...

Someone on facebook group said that he had the same problem, but the issue was part of inner filter was loose or broken... So in 5k km I need to change all filters and will check it out then... If noise will still be present I will lubricate motors that are accessabe and go from there...

Replacing any of the filters takes about 5 minutes. There are DIY guides available on this forum.
You said it drives you crazy but now you will wait another 5000 km...

You don't need to remove any airbag...

I did it! Removed the trim, glovebox and found the troubling motor. In is nr.4, the one on the side pannel behind climate control. I lubricated around thw shaft and on motor. Unfortunaly noise did not disapear.
Now, it might the problem in motor, which I will test in next days. If the problem is in the shaft inside the vent there is not much I can do, because it can not be removed and lube only gets in partialy from the side...

Hello. Did you have any luck getting the noise to stop or at least minimize it?

FWIW, I have an F30 that had the same issue - tiny squeaks that happened whenever I hit rough road coming through the main AC vent.

My wife couldn't hear it, or chose to ignore it, but it literally drove me insane.

After a service where they replaced the filters, the noise stopped. So guessing it probably works all around.
