Mooing from steering cloumn

Hi All,

I've recently experienced the steering column emit what i would describe as a mooing noise when rotating the steering wheel more than one rotation.

I'm assuming there's a plastic bearing that requires some grease ?

Does anyone have a guide on how to disassemble the plastic trim around the steering column ?
Can anyone confirm where the noise maybe coming from ?

Your help is much appreciated !

First, have you checked for cows in there? I would do that first.

Second, that sounds more like a power steering pump low on fluid noise? Check that first for real. Beyond that I don't know.

Often happens where the steering shaft passes through the firewall, there is a rubber boot there. You can lubricate the boot with some silicone spray if that is the source of the noise.

I had the mooing, groaning, but car was under warantee, so they fixed it, but I think mightymousetech is right, they checked something inside the car (under the steering wheel) and said something needed to be changed, I think that was it

depending on it, it may have been the coil spring cartridge.

If the noise does disappear when changing steeringwheel position its likely the rubber, if it still is there, its mostly the cartridge.

The first/cheapest thing to check should be the power steering fluid

in my case the noise came when you turned the wheel and stopped when you stopped, I "thought" the guy said it was a rubber

That is of course ALWAYS a great idea, in this case it isnt the fault

Usually power steering fluid issues or pump issues are a whine or a groan

this is actually as the OP says a "mooo" honestly
I never heard it described as that, but that was the sound I remember bang on
