The Reason I Did Not Get iDrive
Things change way too fast. Especially if you plan to keep the car for a little while.
The new Mercedes-Benz myCOMAND concept... Puts the new iDrive to shame already. What do you guys think of it? Looks pretty cool to me. I am convinced iPhone-type devices and portable GPS will do even better soon.

it's pretty neat, but not sure I understand your logic... because Mercedes might introduce a better mapping/info system, you will opt for zero mapping/info system....
My logic is a modern iDrive 09 ir even 08 is far better than a tomtom display sitting on top of my dashboard with a 12V power line dangling from it.... |

Not impressed. seriously. It's just software and OS.
Any startup software company with a bunch of computer programmers can do same or better. The fact that BMW interface is not as gadgety or have as many options has nothing to do with motorsports. It's nice to have, annoying to some and nothing more. Personally this comes very low in my list of what I am looking for in a M car. Cela dit tu conduits vraiment une M3 ? E90 c'est la serie 3. |

Don't get me wrong i'd love to have a 09 Idrive but i'm definitely happy with my 08 Idrive. Way better then any aftermarket has to offer. Forget the Navigation part of Idrive... It's the whole package. The phone , Ipod controls everything... |

Not good enough reason to not get i-Drive I waited for 09' simply for the update, and I would've been just as happy with the 08'
I think things change a little faster in the Inc ar audio world compared to the stock BMW CD player...that red screen looks even more dated

i don't particularly care for the interface. some of the features look pretty neat, but it doesn't seem like anything that gen 2 idrive couldn't do. it is definitely a good step forward for MB, but i think that bmw is still leading the way and others are following. i appreciate that bmw keeps things simple, that MB myCOMAND seems terribly complex.

It seems pretty cool to me. Not sure why Youtube would be playing on the dashboard of a 614 Hp car??? My only question is what happens if you're not driving in a major city and don't have a great internet connection? Wouldn't it makes sense to keep some info on a hard drive in the car incase your internet connection goes out?

I think you guys understand me wrong. I have nothing against iDrive and I actually think that the update '09 version looks great.
However, the MB new version is a testament to how quickly a factory installed Nav gets dated. I could care less about MB. It was just an example. I plan to keep my M3 for many years. To me the only real advantage of iDrive is Navigation. Almost all other features are available in my non-iDrive car, save M-drive which would be cool to have. It's nice now but in 2 years, there will be much better and cheaper portable options. I considered getting iDrive but Navigation is not worth $2500+ to me. I have a short commute and I care more about the driving characteristics of the M3 anyway. I did not mean to push anyone's button. Just a personal observation.

Pourquoi mentirait-il ? S'il a dit qu'il conduit un E90 M3, qui signifie qu'il conduit celui. Alors...
I am not going to play that game. It is endless. it is like buying a computer, and 2 years later new OS comes out with new features. Or buying a gadget, and the later model comes out with better features. Ehhh. who cares. |
