French Fries
Anyone know when and or why BMW saw fit to remove the "french fries" (the body color trim pieces) from the taillights? I notice the earlier models have them but my 05 does not.

Interesting that your 05 and mine have different taillights.

My 03 had the "fry" but I quickly took them off. Looked too out of place IMO. I mean the rear end of our cars is busy enough as it is, I saw fit to simpilfy it a little. Instead of "4" sections of tail lamps, I now have 2, excluding the center.

The BMW factory workers and designers called the small, body colored exterior trim pieces which were attached to the outside of the taillights and visually separated the inboard and outboard portions of each taillight "french fries". They were apparently notoriously difficult to attach and align properly and factory workers wanted them banished from the design much earlier in the model run than they actually were.

strange my 10/05 build date 2005 has the "french fries"
but then my car is bright red, so you probably don't have to try hard to algin it since the tail lights are red as well. |

Interesting....my build date is 5/05 and no fries........I like the tails without them anyway. Given the color of my car the fries wouldn't show up very well anyway.
