2016 x5 MPPKd Race Chipped won't pass State Inspection. I did change a few things on the head unit on BimmerCode. Turned off Racechip and reset the head unit and drove it 40 miles. Showing Catalyst not ready. Heat Catalyst not ready. 02Sensor not ready. AC System not ready.
Any recommendations? Failed inspection twice. Called Racechip and the said it should not affect the inspection on the car. |

Monitor Readiness can take up to 100 miles sometimes because the OBD doesn't cycle completely. I would tell you to fill up your gas tank and when the car is cold turn it on and drive away straight shot for 40 miles. I've had issues with this same thing on multiple cars. That strategy seemed to get EVAP and CAT to conclusive.

Well it fails inspection not because of the race chip it fails because your reset everything and systems are not ready, most of these systems will get into ready state once certain parameters reached (temperature, amount of cold starts, miles driven etc).

Fill up your tank and just drive around like normal, also try to get 10-15 minutes of highway driving. Should get systems into the ready state. If you want to know for sure download and install ISTA it has monitor readiness check. This used to work on older engines you can try it as well:
1) Start cold engine and idle for approximately 2 minutes. 2) Accelerate to 20-30 MPH and maintain steady speed for 3 minutes. This establishes closed loop O2-sensor operations, response times & switching times. 3) Accelerate to 40-60 MPH and maintain steady speed for 15-20 minutes. This evaluates catalytic converters while O2-sensor response and switching times are checked. 4) De-accelerate and come to a stop. Idle in gear for 5-6 minutes. This checks evaporative leak detection system. Last edited by RED_Y_; 01-07-2022 at 07:49 PM.. |

I had the same issue with NC inspection when trying to clear codes. I disconnected the battery and it all got reset. I just went back after the next gas fill up and it came up. NC ODB2 and emissions should not care about the race chip unless it’s making you idle too rich.

Update- could not get the Catalyst to be ready on the OBD. Had to remove the race-chip and drive it for a few hundred miles. 3rd NC test and finally passed it. Boy have I missed the chip for 4 months.

The racechip is garbage! No, I'm not trolling I've had the RC GTS black before. Placebo is very real and convinces you there's some hp gain. I sold my RC and got the BM3 stage 1 flash tune. Night and day difference. Move on to BM3 and I promise you'll thank me.
