Crap

So I had to go overseas for work for 2 months, and I only found out about it 3 days before I had to leave. Anyway, I had to leave my car and I had no time to arrange for someone to come and start the car every so often. Anyway, I get back, and of course my building decides to start major construction to the parking garage, so my car is completely covered in dust. I attached a picture.

That's not the worst part. I assumed my battery might be dead, which it was. Tried jumping it 3 different cars, as well as two at once, and we were not able to get it started. Called BMW, they sent someone out, and they were still not able to get it started. There is also a Check Engine Light on and a suspension fault showing up. Now I'm on the phone with them trying to get a tow. Ugh. What the heck could have happened while I was gone to screw up the suspension and cause a Check Engine Light to come on?

gasoline that are over 1 yr old are no good. they dotn combust anymore.
but that's not that likely since u were only gone for 2 month.
maybe the dust is clogging up the air filters? no air going in? that's rather unlikely either since that would require complete obstruction of air flow.

this is pretty weird.

or maybe sometimes the anti theft program kicks in after ur battery dies? u need to reset some stuff before it can be restarted again?

just brainstorming for ya...

Doubt it. The only good thing about all the dust was that I could see that no one touched the car at all. The dust was completely uniform with nothing brushed off or disturbed.

Complain to the garage management. All the garage construction projects I am involved in the management is supposed to protect the cars from dust and debris.

Do NOT settle for anything less than them paying for a FULL DETAILING--this is more or less standard practice when garage customers complain of construction dust and debris.

These highly computerized BMW's do strange things when the battery's get extremly low or are allowed to die. Install and new battery and drive it a bit - you might just find that the electrical gremlins were basically caused by your discharged battery. When I 1st got my 535, I didn't realize leaving the IPod plugged in would prevent the car from going into "sleep mode" and didn't drive it for about 4 days...when I did finally start it - the battery was very low and many of my settings were lost including time/date, etc. Once I drove it and recharged the battery then reset everything - it was fine.

Good luck

So 4 hours later the tow truck driver isn't here. Called to cancel the tow until tomorrow. Wasted my night sitting around waiting. It's not BMW's fault, but now I wasted an entire night for no reason. Dammit.

Absolutely speechless...

Its a pity that you forgot to arrange for someone to collect your car. Fingers crossed your beast will be just fine after diagnostic updates, battery change and fresh fuel.

Dun be too hard on yourself... Now you'll have more of a reason to pamper your M3 more and drive it harder on the open roads.

Merry xmas and happy new year

OT, but I have to ask... regarding leaving the Ipod plugged in, are our cars (M3) like this? I haven't noticed any indication on the dash that anything is on. Do we even have "sleep mode", which would imply an "awake mode", and if so, what's the difference?
