MT owners - is your clutch noisy at idle?

at a stop light with the car in N and the clutch out - i hear a slight drivetrain tapping noise. when I depress the clutch pedal it goes away. normal? or a problem?

Yeah my car has the irritating tapping noise too. Thank God for this forum that tells me these noises are normal, or I'd be taking my M in for all kinds of noises!

Got the noise also...I think it has been named the "Tupperware Taping" noise...I believe it is "normal" but why??...

08M3 wrote the following to explain the noise -- "Its from the clutch pressure plate, dual stage lightweight clutch's have weights on the end and when the clutch is not pressed in they make noise, when the clutch is pressed in and the springs have tension it stops. I had a centerforce in one of my drag cars and it used to do that all the time but louder.... Its called clutch chatter."

You can read the thread here -- http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...light=flywheel

I did a quick search and also couldn't fine mention of a builliten... though I swear I've read something official from BMW saying this is normal. Perhaps it was, as Laszlo said in this thread -- http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...lywheel&page=2 -- in the manual that I read it.

Hope that helps.

Peter

My car's clutch doesn't normally make any sounds at me, but it sure did after I did 3-4 burn-outs and a couple of hard launches at a drag event I went to in Feb!

Thought I'd fried it good, but fortunately it was all back to normal once the temps came down!
