640d LCI UK - How much oil?

Hi all,

How much oil does this 2016 N57 engine need please?

I've seen both 7.5L and 6.1L quoted.

Thanks

Sometimes we have to look closely on who is giving the information. Since we are on an international media + the cars are German based...we run across different methods of measurement (metric vs US imperial vs British imperial).

Since the info in the post above gives the oil capacity for the N57 engine as 7 liters...the oil capacity would be equivalent to the numbers below based on which unit of measure is being utilized:
  • 7 liters (metric)
  • 7.4 quarts (US imperial)
  • 6.1 quarts (British imperial)

Depending on which unit of measurement one uses...one can sometimes skip past the the unit of measure that is being utilized and just focus on the numerical value. Which as you can see in the bullets above...the volumn can run similar to the amounts you found doing a search...they may not be wrong...it could just be the unit of measure needs to be realized, too.

Thanks mate, done the change now and you are correct.
I was probably closer to 6.4L as the dipstick was near 90% max line. Didn't want to do all the way in case it starts getting too much oil warning.
