Replace Plastic Piece Under E-Brake Handle

Is it possible to replace the plastic piece underneath the E-Brake handle? It's the plastic piece that dips in so you can store store item. If so, is it an easy DIY?

Last year I went through the exercise of replacing my center cover, Part No. 51167026223, See the last scanned page below, 2nd Diagram R51 3602), that's the cover? I had no idea that these $2.00 car fresheners were corrosive. I had accidentally left one sitting on top the cover, then on the very next day I had noticed that the silver paint was discolored & peeling off. I was upset at myself and had to buy a new cover at the dealership for $31.00…

Anyways, to answer your question it is about 15 min. DIY. You just have to use a credit card size strong piece of plastic/ or similar. It has to be thin enough to slip between the gap, and strong enough to pry off the gear sift selector cover. So you do not scratch the paint on the gear selector cover I had placed tape as close to edge as possible.

Once the cover is removed, you really do not have to disconnect anything. All I did was lift it high enough to slide out the cover piece…

Below are scanned pages of BMW TIS Instructions that I printed & used for the removal. In all honesty, I used the instructions just to get an idea of what to expect, but again once you get the gear selector cover off, it will be obivious....Also, don't pay attention to the other non related instructions...TIS always had illustrated other tasks that could be done as well...

Hope this helps out & Good Luck…
