replacing water pump proactively - why replace the thermostat?
85k miles on my N55 , water pump still fine but I know it’s only a matter of time. I understand most also replace the thermostat at same time. Is this because you are already there?
Most other vehicles I’ve had , thermostats last 150k+ miles. Let me know your thoughts! |

It is indeed because you are already there.
I'm not 100% convinced you need to, however. Our WP's do indeed fail often, something about the circuit in part of it. Failing t-stats is a bit of a thing of the past, generally speaking. And replacing the T-stat isn't exactly a walk in the park even with the other items removed. I wouldn't fault you for skipping it. And on the other hand, haha, you might consider just doing it, and perhaps removing the radiator to give yourself more room and your belt and the tensioner pulley while you are at it That tensioner pulley is a common thing for us as well. |
