Which (if any) of the dealer extras are worth it?

I made a point not to buy any of the "extra" stuff offered by the dealer, knowing that I can go back and get the ones I want later.

There are:

1) Dent removal coverage $399 (might spring for this one)

2) Clear stone shield... probably not, concerned about long-term effects on paint

3) Wheel / tire road hazard coverage $499

4) Lo-Jack -$699 - my SA recommended this instead of the alarm system. But doesn't BMW Assist have something similar to Lo-jack built in?

wheel protection cames in handy in some locals..

i've used paintless dent removel in the past with great results ...not sure what you are getting for $399..

i would pass on the lojack...

a clear bra is good...if the installer is good...have it on my boxster....looks as good as the first day when I bought it...

best of luck

None are worth it. For the dent removal, you get like 3-4 usages depending on the dealer. Usually it ranges around 80 dollars a panel to get them out your self, and that is if you do not cut a deal. You might as well pay for it as you get them, then pay for the removal first and spend more money.

wheel is worth it up here in jersey... lots of potholes and nails

but if you are going to change your wheels out, it doesn't cover...

if i liked the wheels that came with the 1, i totally would get wheel/tire insurance

I got the wheel insurance, dent removal, and glass repair for 5 yrs. It was all grouped under one plan. It cost $900. I went through 3 tires on my A4 so to me this may come in handy. After market wheels are covered as well as tires. It gives me piece of mind especially with these very low profile performance tires.

I plan on getting the invisible bra. Around here we get a lot of wind and have a lot of gravel, so the front end of your car can get pretty beat up. I'l probably skip the others. I've only ever had major tire damage once in the last 15 years and that was when I commuted to a job on a road which also lead to the city dump, so there tended to be a lot of debris in the road. I've never had a dent that needed to be removed (I'm careful about how I park) and if the car gets stolen I have BMW Assist to "lojack" it for me. (cars don't get stolen much around here anyway)

I'll pass on the invisible bra. I'm definitely getting the 5 year paint warranty offered here. The hardwater damage here in Hawaii is rediculous! I'm still on the fence about the tire warranty...maybe this thread will make the difference.

You might check with your insurance agent to see if there would be enough of a discount to warrant the LoJack - especially with the BMW Assist. I was considering it on my last new car but passed after hearing that Allstate wouldn't give me any price break - but YMMV.
