Is anyone planning to get shorter gearing?

I remember a while back advevo said that he was going to swap out his final drive gear. Advevo, if you are reading this please let us know if you have done so and how it has gone. This is something I am willing to consider. Has anyone else thought about this?

Rearend from an automatic has steeper gearing I believe. Lower gears + LSD = FUN

I believe Adeveo has done this already. the auto rear end has 3.06 ratio as opposed to 3.46 in the manual

Looks like that's reversed. The steptronic has the shorter 3.46 FD ratio and the MT has 3.08.

This mod will be very tempting once I get some miles on my car.

this would be a very tempting mod, this probably the only thing the car is missing, but it would likely be expensive and would void the drivetrain warranty.

Do they look the same? How would the dealer know?

by driving it. signs of tampering. if it was an expensive problem, the kind where you need to get it done under warranty, i'm sure they'd scour the car with a magnifying glass to find a way to screw you.

I do not believe swapping 3.08 gears for 3.46 gears would have any affect on "ones" warranty. Adding a LSD should not affect it either. JMHO

Adeveo said the 3.46 from the auto 135i didn't match perfectly. I wonder if the 3.23 diff from the 128i manual will fit perfectly?

Seems like a lot of $$$ and trouble for only a 5% gearing difference.
