Question Do ED 1-ers come with ANY type of floor mats?

Do Euro Delivery 1ers come with any type of floor mats?

Carpet?

I'm going to do Performance Center Re-Delivery (where I suppose I could have them put in there) but I'd rather have rubber mats with me in Germany, for obvious reasons.

I'd also like to take advantage of the discounts that Dan and others are selling parts/accessories for.

How have you ED girls/guys handled this? :iono:

Thanks!

Yes you will be provided with all weather temporary mats for the duration of the trip. They will get thrown out when you drop off the car to be shipped though.

Thanks for the fast response. So this isn't something I would need to throw in my bag to bring back? It's literally recycled at the shipping center (or trashed?) Wow.

Check out bimmerfest.com forums and read up on the European Delivery section...i've become so educated on this process and I learn something new on there everyday.

Yeah I got carpet mats with my delivery. Didn't know they toss them out after drop off; they seemed like the ordinary carpet mats that would come with the car to me. bah.

I got carpet ones on my ED as well. I took them out of the car, along with the warning triangle, one of the ED plates, and first aid kit, before dropping it off in Europe. When I got the car redelivered to the States, my dealer put mats in it. So, I wound up with two sets. YMMV, and I did have room for the mats in my luggage.

I had carpet mats two weeks ago, left them in. Going to ask the dealer for all weather mats when it gets back as the harms agent told me they wouldn't be thrown out. I also left in the warning triangle but took the first aid kit.

US spec-1 series do *not* come standard with mats. But BMW would like to keep your car looking new when it arrives in US after you have taken ED and driven it for some time in Europe. So they put in 'courtesy' mats. If you want to keep them, you need to take them out of the car and carry them with you in your luggage. Otherwise, since they are not part of the US-spec car, they get thrown out (may be recycled, I don't know)

Warning triangle and first aid kit are required by law in Europe. But again, these are not required in US. So BMW puts it in the car when you do ED, and if you leave them in the car when you drop it off, these get thrown out/recycled.

Why would they throw out or recycle stuff they have already given you? Seems illogical and a waste.

Can anyone confirm that they "throw out/recycle" your floormats? The harms agent I spoke with told me they would both be in the car when I got it back (I am open to the possibility she was wrong...)

It's not BMW's choice to throw that stuff away/recycle it. It's a problem with customs. Only things that come installed from the factory stay in the car. It's the same reason you can't load up your trunk with excess luggage instead of flying back with it. Basically no matter what your car will arrive like it would arrive at a dealership. They can't be responsible for anything you try to send from one country to another. For all they know, you could have a kilo of cocaine in one of your bags or something.

I believe floor mats are a DEALER installed option, not factory. So what the Harms lady was talking about was that your dealer would add these mats after they got the car.

I asked about the triangle too.

It's the same answer for the triangle, it's not a factory installed piece. It's just something they have to have in the car for you to legally drive in Germany.

But just to make absolutely sure: if these items weren't in the car when I drop it off (because they were tucked inside my luggage, for example), BMW would not care or ask for them, correct?

Why would a safety triangle be illegal in the united states?

Still waiting for confirmation that they actually remove this.

I meant I asked the harms agent about the triangle, they also said it would be left alone.

The last time I did ED (2004 325i) we left the floor mats and took the first aid kit and triangle. The mats were there when the car was delivered to the US.

In exactly 3 week I will be driving down the autobahn in my new Montego Blue 135i w/premium, sport, cold weather, Ipod and Premium radio. I'm still looking for the ultimate song to be plaing as my wife and I leave Das Welt.

The triangle is not illegal. It's just that they are not allowed to include anything inside the car that would not otherwise be included with a standard US purchased car. It's a customs thing. Since the triangle and floor mats are not standard equipment on US purchases they have to take them out before they ship the car over on the boat.

At least that's how I understand it anyway.

Damn I have just under 4 weeks until I'm in Munich. How long are you there for?

this seems an absurd waste of money to me, but I guess when the car costs 40k, $40 floormats aren't that big of a deal. As I am planning on doing the same thing-ed to PCD, does anyone know if the PC puts floormats in the car?

Why not just grab them? Even if you have to FedEx them to yourself back in the US it'll probably still be cheaper then buying them over here. (the carpet ones retail for like $150)

I wonder what these 'temp' mats look like?

From what I've read, unless you have your dealer order you carpet mats or rubber mats and then have them shipped to the Performance Center, they won't be putting those in upon Re-Delivery. Can anyone confirm?

Cheers for ED to PCD! WOOT!
