learned something new about homelink
while programming my homelink buttons this evening, i made an interesting discovery (new to me, anyway). i have a two car garage (separate doors). without thinking, i programmed my door to button 1. i park on the right, however, so i decided that it made more sense for the left door to be button 1. so instead of reseting all three buttons, i figured i could just reprogram button 1 for the left door. what i found was that button 1 then opened both doors simultaneously. after this discovery, i settled on button 1 doing the left door, button 2 doing both, and button 3 doing the right door. sure it's a novelty but for those of you who don't have a need for the third button, now you can actually make use of it.

I have homelink in my current car and have had to reset the garage door opener a few times now. (my fault) At this point I'm pretty much an expert on how to do it.

Mine would have taken less than the hour I spent if the manual had specified that the motor had to be running, and that accessing the ceiling unit was necessary. Downloading Homelink's instructions for my particular opener was helpful.
Does anyone else feel that the owner's manual(like so many others these days) is less than clear in a number of areas? Like labeling "ignition on" as "radio readiness" and referring to electrical accessories as "electric consumers" Tom |

Not sure if it's the same as the current 1er, but in my G35 I can open my garage when the car is turned off. I park my car out sometimes and anyone can break the window and open my garage, which isn't very safe.

Just a thought...
Maybe as we find errors, or tips for the manual, we could post them, put them in the sticky in the subfolder; Maintance/Servicing/Warranty Be nice if 1addicts had a budget to reward people for the extra work. Hmmm... at the end of the week/month/quarter the person with the most help gets a 1addicts t-shirt and goes into the 1fame... A thought. EspressoBoy |

That's all just X-10 stuff. You can get it a LOT cheaper from X-10s own website or http://www.smarthome.com. I bought a kit once with 3 lamp modules, a remote, a motion sensor and a PC dongle for like $30. You can also get nicer stuff, like actual wall switches, dimmers, etc..
Trust me that kit BMW sells is not very good and way over priced. Dan |

Can someone tell me how to make the Homelink work...I have a 2 Car garage, the 1st (one on left) is for my wife and the one on the right (2nd) is mine. I use a Genie Excelerator with a roll over coding system and for some reason I cannot get my Homelink to sync with my garage! Not from the remote signal and definitely not from the overhead motor learn signal!!!
However LOVEEEE the car and I've had a lot of fun little coupes (currently have the Cayman S which the lease runs out on next week) and the Bimmer kicks it! |

Homelink was one of the first things I programmed when I got home with my 128i. I didn't want to clip my opener to the inside of my nice new vehicle.

Using a single button to open both doors is a cool idea for those that run out of buttons. In your case, you can just hit the left button AND the right button... you don't really need the center button, but there could be times when it could really help out.
I discovered that I can use the first two buttons to open entry/access gates, so I was glad to be able to get rid of those remotes. I am left with only one remaining button for a garage door... or doors, now that you have taught me how to open more than one! Thanks for the cool tip.

At the garage door opener receiver in the garage, locate the “learn” button. (On my Genie garage door opener, it's a little round blue button). Press and release the “learn” button. NOTE: Once the button is pressed, there are approx. 30 seconds in which to initiate the next step. Return to the vehicle and firmly press and hold the trained HomeLink button for two seconds and release. Repeat the “press/hold/release” sequence in the car up to 3 times to complete the training process. HomeLink should now activate your device. GL, and hope this helps! |

Basically there are two steps for programming it for a rolling system...
The first thing you need to do is teach the car from your original garage door remote by following the instructions in the owners manual. The next step is to tech the garage door opener to respond to the car. On my opener I did this by simply pressing a learn button on the opener itself, then jumping into the car and pressing the button I taught in step #1. My opener confirmed that it had accepted the cars signal by flashing the garage light 3 times. After that I was able to open and close the garage door using the button in the car. This is basically the same procedure I had to use when I bought a new remote for my wife and when I added the little pin pad I bought for those "just in case" situations. (like when I have a loaner or rental that has not been learned into the system) Dan |
