Going for 400rwhp....

I will be having UR catless DP's installed this weekend and I will be shooting for 400rwhp on pump gas (93 octane).

This does sound improbable and impossible but I am going to give it a shot. I put down 365rwhp with just an intake and V3 so I figure with DPs I should be in the 390 - 400rwhp range if I am lucky...

The dyno will be done at the same place I always dyno at and I will make sure to have the cooling system setup the same as last time.

My car is as follows:
2008 BMW e90 335i
Steptronic
PROcede V3
Dual K&N Cone Filters
UR Catless DP's
BMS o2 simms

I am getting the DP's installed in the morning (~8am) and I will dyno later that day. I am bringing my laptop with me so I can make little changes to user torque settings or even change maps if I want to.

Feel free to comment or wish me luck. I know I probably wont hit 400rwhp on pump gas but it is worth a shot!

GOOD LUCK!! I wanna see more power coming out our engines, but will this kill the life of the turbos?

No one knows for sure but I would think running the turbos at 14psi will mean you only get 100k out of them rather than 300k....

Good luck! I'm going to guess 385, but it's just a guess.

...You have 93 octane, and a better flowing stock exhaust. Man, I'm envious.

By then I'm sure they'll have turbo upgrades.

:w00t:
is this true? i have noticed that modded 135's seem to put down lower numbers than modded 335's but i assumed it was because they don't follow these guidelines:

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=488

(especially step 4)

i know some people used to say the 135 will be detuned, but i thought it was just 335 owners.

Step 4 - Bring along a USB flash drive to take home your runs.

Shiv has the dyno numbers (he had already pressed "send" to email the results to himself)...I'm sure he will post them soon.

From memory - -

I didn't do a dyno without mods, but with DPs and the intake I was 265-270(?)...much less than expected. With v3, I was around 350. I was thinking 370-375, so this was a little less than expected.

At some point shiv pulled out the bung thingy that goes in the exhaust, and that gave me another 5-10 hp.

Then we threw in the race gas, and realized that the power was limited prematurely b/c the wastegates wouldn't close, thereby limiting boost to about 15.5 psi.

So, it appears that the stock catback is restricting the exhaust...

oh, the 265-270 might have included the effects of some bad gas (the car's, not mine)

So, how are your turbos holding up so far? I'm just asking for my own sake, not to poke fun at anyone.

Once I get mine (2 weeks!) I will also be going to similar power, I am looking forward to your results and hopefully a company to come along with a turbo upgrade to make this goal a bit easier to reach/surpass.

Just fine. Were you expecting my turbos to be shot after 3000 miles?

I have no doubt that I'm shortening the life a little, but I would be very surprised if my cars dies before I'm ready to trade it in.

When do you plan on releasing the car? I plan to keep mine for quite some time, at least til the end of the loan, which is 5 years. Then again I will be caring for it a lot. I want to know what potential I have over risks.

I'm not sure, maybe 3-5 years? Depends on my financial conditions, needs of the family, what's included in the next generation 1-series, etc.

I was not trying to imply that I timing my release based upon the life of the turbos...

Ah ok. Thank you though ktdw. Yes I'm really interested, but looking at both sides. Better to be safe than sorry.

Also, wish maps could be selected on the fly, so I can open her up when I need/want to. But be a little less than max, still way more than stock though, for normal driving.

I have the map switcher, though it's not yet hooked up to Homelink. I could set one to valet if I wanted...but I haven't

this is very interesting. does the 335i not have the bung thingy or does the wastgate close sooner? The wastegate thing sounds like a v81/29.2 issue and I'm curious if the comparison was not to a pre 29.2 v80 335i.
