Clutch Replacement/Warranty?
I was wondering if my clutch goes after say 30k-40k miles; if BMW will replace it under the warranty (if my car is kept stock)? Thanks.

Good call, I dont plan on abusing. I guess the warranty "call" may vary dealership to dealership. I'm going for the JB2 +55hp, but drag racing is out of the question so I'm probably good to go then. Thanks.

The only way I could see BMW replacing the clutch under warranty is if there was a defect causing the clutch to wear fast. I would say 99 times out of 100 you will not get a clutch replaced under warranty.

My clutch was replaced on my Cadillac CTS at one local dealership UNDER WARRANTY. The car had 43,000 miles and was not abused. Another Cadillac dealership refused to do this though, I think it varies dealership to dealership but they have to prove that there was abuse. I hear that if the clutch was never fit right when assembled, the clutch could wear quite fast under normal driving conditions.

I'm getting some clutch chatter right now... anyone else? I certainly don't abuse the car as it is my daily driver.

BMW says they will replace wear and tear items but they don't mention clutch specifically. They do mention brake pads and rotors. I have heard of people getting their clutches replaced under warranty. I'm sure there are some dealers that won't want to replace them and just claim abuse.

I agree with stampchez, obviously friendly dealerships are replacing clutches and BMW already replaces "wearable items" like brakes and rotors under contract already. Tires and wheels are not covered unless you buy that package, they do not offer a package for the clutch probably b/c it is more mechanical in nature.

I think I am having some clutch chatter issues too. Its nice and quiet once I press the clutch pedal to the floor and still shifts great. Anyone take there 135 to the dealer for this issue???
Thanks Brian

a friend who works for BMW of NA Service told me about a customer whose e46 m3 clutch was replaced under factory warranty (not factory maintenance plan), becaue it had prematurely worn. it was around 40k miles, and didn't fail, but simply wore out. i dont have any more specifics about this, but i imagine it has a lot to do with your service rep, and how the part is presented to BMW ("defective, clutch wore evenly and prematurely" vs. "worn out due to spirited driving, no defect")

Clutch disc are covered under maint if the material on the clutch disc is less then a certain measurment... i think it is 1mm.. photos sometimes need to be taken and sent to engineering..
vehicle condition is taken into account ie mods etc etc .. normal rule of thumb is 1 clutch under maint... next one on you... there thought is maybe it was a defective clutch that wore quickly, or a defective pressure plate that never release 100 % so you didnt get the full life of the clutch... If the same car wears the next clutch in the same time frame.... then its on you.. bmw clutches wear very very welll under normal everyday driving conditions...

believe me they are covered if worn below minimum spec stamped on the edge of the rotor.
