I usually put hot water on it for a few minutes then very carefully use a straight razor to take off the emblem. Then I apply a small amount of oops with a cloth to any glue residue left over and once the residue is off I wash with lots of water then soap and water so the oops doesnt get into the paint. This is what I do to all my cars and it always comes out good.

Dental floss and goo gone. works awesome. Place masking tape below the lettering to create a straight level line, then take the letters off with the floss. You now have a straight line to place the new letters.

+1

Do NOT use a razorblade you'll either scratch the paint or cut yourself.

One tip: Heat up the numbers with a hairdryer first, then pull them off with dental floss. The heat will make it easier and you should be able to peel off any residue left behind. Goo gone for anything that is stubborn.

Also, be sure not to "lever" the numbers against the paint when removing them. Try to work them from side to side. The reason I say this is because the edge of the number can dig into the paint causing a chip that can rust.
